Open Carry Fantasy

It's not that bog of a deal in states like Wyoming and Washington, where they have "open carry". Hardly anyone practices it. Can't say about the concealed carry, because, well, they're concealed.

I think "fantasy" is a rather poor choice of words. People who fantasize about some sort of extravagant open carry rig have seen too many movies and are likely more concerned with being seen and noticed as an armed tough guy than they are in having a meaningful self defense solution.

I agree with those who say they'd carry concealed (if legal) even if OC was legal.

It defeats the purpose of being a regular citizen with a weapon if you take away the element of surprise.

LEO really only carry openly for 3 reasons:

1) Easier access for the relatively high likelihood that they will need to deploy their weapon.

2) Their uniform already ruined their element of surprise. And

3) It makes them look more intimidating. None of those things apply to most of us.

That said,

if I were to wear a pistol openly on a regular basis,

it suddenly becomes a fashion item in addition to being a tool,

just like your watch is a timepiece and your belt buckle keeps your pants up.

So just like other fashion accessories,

I'd need to own lots of them to make sure I have one for each occasion

Cargo pants/shorts and a t-shirt: Glock.

Jeans/khakis and a collared shirt: Beretta Inox

Suit/Tux: A really nice 1911 or revolver,

or maybe a Walther PPK with a medium dry martini, lemon peel.

I agree with everything except the last part in bold. The one thing that separates a watch, pants, wallet, ring etc, is the handgun serves basically one purpose: To save your life. It's more important to me to know the handgun I carry, i can have complete trust, and training with that particular one. That is the one exception to fashion IMO.

So I would carry a Glock 17 in every situation. Open carry or CC.

I have to agree. I saw some fat dorks in Vegas open carrying. Weird scene. I've also seen the "armed tough guy" types in AZ and CO. We asked the CO guys why they were packing, and they answered "to protect our women." Somehow I managed to keep my smart assed mouth shut and not ask, "from what? Grizzly bear attacks?"

True, but is it important to you to have that muscle memory to the point where your handgun is more like an extension of you? I believe that it's more difficult training with multiple handguns including holstering, whether to thumb the safety etc.

That being said I have a hard time for the same reason as I have different platforms and I like them all.

I posted earlier about 2 weeks ago about muscle memory in a thread and asked if others train with only one handgun platform and why. Here

Oh dang I almost thought that last guy was Mark Walberg as Marcus Luttrell, the resemblance is uncanny.
