    Conversion Barrels - questions

I you guys talking about Glock conversion barrels all the time. People have G22s with 9mm conversion barrels, G20s etc...I don't know much about this and have a few questions for you guys.

Do conversion barrels need additional parts as well? I have a G22. Can I just drop in a 9mm conversion barrel by itself and be done? It this as reliable as a G17?

And what about the G20? To convert it to .40 or .357 sig is a new barrel enough? It seems other parts would be necessary like a recoil spring or something...

I once spoke to a Beretta cust service rep about converting a 96 to a 92. He said not to do it. Its not just a matter of swapping the barrel. It requires additional modification as well.

If you guys feel like shedding any light, I'd appreciate it.

For my G22, I just swap the barrel and the mag. I have noticed that with 115 reloads, the ejection is weak or at least, inconsistent. Using new 115 or 124 reloads, the ejection is better. I've never had a FTE.

    hope that helps.

Tossed a Storm Lake 40S&W barrel in my G20. ~700 rounds of Geco flat-nose FMJ with one failure to feed; I think I limpwristed that one...I was slowfiring and trying for accuracy. Mag only had 2-3 rounds left in it.

I'm pretty happy with the conversion barrel.

I use a lone wolf barrel in a g23, 500 rds no problem using 9mm mags. I've tried swapping ejectors, didn't notice much difference.

If you had a g20, you wouldent need to convert anything. There are several people on this website alone that have been doing it for years with no issues, infact i think theres a member who made a youtube vid explaing it and showing it. Remember the .40 is a slightly shorter 10mm with less energy.

I got a lonewolf barrel for my G23 and all good so far. I have 2 9mm mags for it. I used my .40 mags and put 9mm in it and still worked flawless.

Interesting... Never heard of a barrel swap on a Beretta 92fs?

Thanks. Really appreciate the feedback from everyone.

I'll look for that youtube video. And if I drop a 9mm into my G22, I'll stick to the heavier stuff.

I'd like to get a G20sf. I know its Glocktober now but funds are tight. Might miss the action...

Picked up a 96A1 before they went off roster. After the fact, couple people told me I can buy a 9mm conversion barrel and I'd have a 92A1 also. Sounded interesting until I called Beretta. Then again, I've been given wrong info from a Beretta gunsmith in the past...

                  Love my 96 though.

Depends on the conversion calibers in question.

                    Example: turning a G22 (.40) into a G17 (9mm). Just a barrel is fine

Turning a G20 (10mm) into a G17 (9mm) you will need a lighter recoil spring because the slide is so much heavier

I love the G20 platform because of the versatility it offers. But depending on the swap in question, it may make sense to switch out the recoil spring as well. After all, the springs are so cheap, why not?

I've got a 96 slide on my 92 Vertec and have no issues. Just as often as not I drop my Vertec barrel in to the 96 slide and it works fine too. Did Beretta tell you it wouldn't work?

Be careful with conversion barrels. I bought a 9mm Storm Lake conversion barrel for my G35. It shot 2.5" high and right. I sent it back to them thinking it was defective. They sent another barrel and sure enough, it still shot 2.5" high and right.

I thought it might be a problem with Storm Lake. So I bought a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel. It too shot 2.5" high and right.

So the problem is with my G35. Strangely, it's dead nuts on with the stock .40 barrel it came with.

So now I have 2 conversion barrels that I can't use with my gun.

My lonewolf shoots around 2" high as well. I figured it was from shooting 9mm using sights for 40cal.

Yes. A Beretta customer service rep said something like "different guns, different parts" and provided some kind of explanation. I took it with a grain of salt.

Not to get off topic, but a couple years ago I spoke with one of the in-house Beretta gunsmiths. I had asked about the newer plastic parts like the guide rod. He proceeded to explain that Beretta has been using plastic guide rods since the 60s. Kind of funny considering my dad's 92 came a metal one like all other Berettas then. Its weird when you talk to an "expert" and hear them say something totally wrong.

This makes me a little hesitant. That really sucks to be stuck with 2 barrels and neither work correctly.
