    RIA GI wood

Hey guys, I'm still a little giddy from shooting my new RIA this past weekend. I just can't believe how nice the gun is. Its my first handgun purchase since the late 80's and the very first time I have shot a 1911.

I have seen\held a few of them and decided I wanted to replace the grips right off. Man was I wrong about this. They looked so good, I thought they were plastic.

Down to the question. What kind of wood are these grips made from? I have a couple lever action M92's made from Brazilian mystery wood, like most I have no idea what kind of wood they are made from..

I bought a set of Triceratops Customs Full Size Flat Top Checkered Walnut Wood. These are a little thinner then the OG grips.

I'm really shocked at how well this gun fits the hand. I can see why some many of you have more then 1 or more then 10.

What kind of wood are these grips made from?

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Idk, I pulled mine and went straight for some VZ's, but I sure do like the way it shoots. I can't believe you can get one for the price of a glock...

I'd for sure get a glock 30 when the time is right. I started looking at 1911's right after Bass Pro Shops opened in Rancho. I really liked the Para Ordnance Warthog at the time. Then SHTF and I lost interest in handguns.

      Enjoy your evening

Your stock finish is crazy nice- mine had way more of a matte finish, and no good grain. Yours looks great man! I fell in love w the 1911 b/c of my RIA- now i've got a couple, with one more in waiting

Thanks Ben, I was pretty shocked when Kyle at Turners (RC) pulled it out of the box.

When it comes to the furniture on guns I'm pretty picky. I don't mind doing my own finish on them if the wood is at least matching. I've stripped down a couple new lever guns only to find out the wood looks like it came from different planets.

Here's the other side. I'm real happy with this handgun. FWIW the finish is a little darker in person.

Yea, your grain looks nice. My GI was just plain and came cracked in half, so it went in the trash.
My guess would be the cheapest wood available to the home land of the PH.

Congrats & welcome to the world of 1911's .

They get some nice wood in the PI. We had packing crates come from there that I wanted to take home they were so beautiful. Wouldn't surprise me if those were made out of repurposed pallets. The grips that came with mine looked nice but I like checkering.

You lucked out big time. That's the best wood I've ever seen on a stock RIA. I don't think I've ever seen one that had any grain at all.

Do yourself a favor: send it in to RIA for a tune up. Arnel is a master gunsmith and does all work in house. I sent in Trijicon sights and a beavertail. Gave him a little money for his time, he tuned it and installed everything. Made my stock RIA even better - just a suggestion. Congrats - they are nice pieces, very underrated.

Thank you, thank all of you for your input.

I can see this is going to spread. I have a good buddy who's at BPS's getting a colt 1911

A guy on this old thread is claiming someone at armscor says it is katmon wood
Does anyone know what kind of wood the grips that ship with the RIA tactical are made of? I've searched on Google and the forum search feature and haven't turned up any information.
