SF Sheriff Failed his Pistol Qualification

So our sheriff failed his pistol qualification, unsurprisingly.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the test for qualification is. I want to beat him this weekend.

I dont think that should be an excuse. He should be setting an example for everyone under him. And if shooting is not part of his job anymore (since its mostly community projects and admin) then they should take his gun and not make him qual.

Unless you have a range that will allow holster work, and double and triple taps, and possibly engaging multiple targets while moving, you may not have a chance of even competing. Then again since the range sgt. was transferred prior to him showing up, I'm sure the new range master made it easy for him, and he still failed to qualify.

Every time I qualified at SDSO we had people failing. They use to let you keep trying until you passed but when I retired (mid 2013), they would give you one chance then have you come back. Some could not even patrol ready a shotgun without screwing it up. Generally court folks were the worst. The test use to be 3,5,7,15 and 20 yard strong hand, weak hand, and both hand. At the 20 yard line, if I recall, you had to shoot 4 shotgun slugs and then transition to pistol and shoot 5 or 6 more rounds. Who knows, maybe he failed less lethal or rifle part of the qual. The qual shoot is easy and there is no excuse for not passing. You would think that people who depend on firearms as an integral part of their survival would practice once in a while. I know budget cuts changed our qual shoots from once every 90 days to once or twice a year for some time but that's no excuse to not pass.

It's scary so many are not proficient. If my life was on the line like theirs is everyday, I'd make damn sure I was proficient.

For sure! With a box full of hi-points you could hit the target all day long, as long as your throwing arm is in good shape
