.45 ACP revolver?

I love this handgun:

it feels great in the hand, but I am nut sure if the .45 is the way to go. I alreay have a .357 in 6", but I am thinking this would be a great lightweight pack gun.

Any opinions?

No you are NOT nuts.

I have a 4" 625 (2005 production) that's great, and a tack driver. And it feels like a 'pop gun' to me, not much recoil. Of course I'm just shooting 230gr FMJ ammo, nothing real hot.

I don't think this lighter gun would cause painful recoil w/45ACP. I shoot a 3.5" 1911 w/alloy frame (Officer's Model) and that doesn't feel bad.

With good grips I think this'll be fine.

You have my permission to go out and buy one. Tell your wife I said so.

The S&W 329PD is a bit painful shooting 44Mag. However, it'd be great for middling or middling-plus 44Spl loads.

Sounds cool. I like revolvers, since they just...well, work. Just put ammo in it and pull the trigger.

What about the .357 loaded with .38 spl? (if recoil with the .357 was the issue?)

I would go that route no prob if I didn't already have a .357

I know some want to standardize calibers, where I want at least one of each!

Size to power its not the best pick. You can get a VERY hard hitting round in the same size frame. But, it sure would be a fun range/comp gun and home defence gun without the big POP that a 357 and 44mag would make. The 45ACP round is a great stopper without going overboard. The nice thing about revo's is you can load them hotter and softer then you can an auto. +p's would not be a problem.

Pain isnt a factor I have somewhat large hands and a pretty good grip

I am the same way. But this gun is so light that even middling 44 loads will be, um, 'quite sharp'. You won't wanna go thru a whole box of ammo in one sitting.

Most awesome part of a revolver? Not having to run around picking up your brass. Talk about a money saver on your reloading costs.

No matter how well I scour the area after I shoot, I still always lose 100-200 peices of brass, or about 20%, which ever is more.

I know its trigger gets a lot of crap, but I love my Ruger Redhawk 5.5" in .44mag.



It handles magnum loads easily and comfortably...and with Miwall New 44 Special 240gr JHP it's very easy to shoot and a lot of fun for plinking.

An added bonus is knowing that no matter how stout the load, it won't break (your wrist may be another matter).
