    Smith 586 value

I have a Smith & Wesson 586 4" in the 10 day jail. It was on consignment in a local shop. The price is $550. I'm wondering now if it's a little high. The gun has a little holster wear, and appears to have had an action job. The trigger is very smooth. It looks to be in pretty good shape. Do you think it's worth it? I have to pay tax as well, so the total price is $615 out the door.

    Here it is...

Too late now! Shoot it and enjoy it and don't worry about it.

That's about right. They are getting hard to find. What "Dash" model is it? On the frame, under the crane, it will say 586-X. X will be anywhere from non-existent so it's a first production run to -7 which was the last version. c good

I forgot. I know I looked, but it may be no dash.

I'd say it is a bit high.

I saw one for sale last week that was marked at $650, I thought that was a little high. For one with some wear it on, its difficult to say, if you paid too much it wasn't by a lot, maybe $50 or so.

Seems high, almost into the territory of the more sought after smiths. But then again don't see many 586's for sale.

That's about right for a consignment

Great revolver, don't lose sleep over it. The 4" 586 is one of my favorites, wish I had one. I can't remember the last time I saw one on consignment up north :/

586s - in fact blued revolvers - have been a bit sparse in S&W's production over the last several years.

So 586s can demand a bit of a premium and if it's in nice shape you should feel good about it.

These are GREAT revolvers. If it turns out you didn't want it you could sell it for about same price here on Calguns.

                      (I'd LOVE to have a 3" 586...)

picked it up today. It is a no dash. I'll get pics up tomorrow and update the original post. It's pretty dirty and I want to replace the grips. It came with Pachmayr Gripper grips. I might go Houge wood, or???

congrats I made a similar post after I bought my 586. I'm glad I didn't sweat a few bucks. My suggestion Ahrends grips. http://ahrendsgripsusa.com/revolver.htm

I used to have a 586 Target model back in the late 80s and I've always kicked my self in the arse for selling it. I did get another one and I'm still looking for grips worthy of its' accuracy.

This 6" 586 is a real sweet shooter. Wish I had a 4" 581 to go with it.
