    FTF Transfer Questions

I'm in the market for my first semi-auto, looking for a Sig Sauer P226 to buy. (I have two Snubnose revolvers that I bought from a dealer in Simi Valley.) The way I understand it, an off-roster gun can't be shipped. So if I want to buy a gun that's 800 miles away in Northern California, I have to travel there to do the FTF transfer, and then again 10 days later to pick it up. Is that correct, or is there a way around this, i.e., can the previous owner pick it up from there and then ship it to me or the gun store doing the DROS thingi?

That's correct sir. One thing you can do to kinda ease the travel pain is to convince the seller to travel to your area with the firearm, transfer at your local dealer. Then there isn't two trips involved. I've known NorCal calgunners to purchase plane tickets for SoCal guys, fly them up, pick them up at the airport, drive them to the local ffl for transfer, drive them back to the airport, buy them lunch, and send them on their way home. Throw in a couple hundred bucks extra for their troubles, and everyone was happy. Probably not worth it on a 226 though. Good luck, they come up for sale pretty regularly in all regions.

Yes as nitro said, just keep an eye out for a local sale. Should not be that hard to find.

Well, since you're in Simi, you are wrong. From Simi, you can't travel 800 miles North and still be in CA.

If you can't find it locally, try searching Gunbroker.com and use advanced search. In search line put * and then select item condition to "used" and then scroll down to bottom of page and change USA State to "California." System will return an error message complaining how wildcard character too broad of a search. On "narrowing your search" side panel, you can select semi auto pistols. You can further refine your search by manufacturer. Once finding pistol you want, check location of seller and again if willing to do face to face private party sale. I have found a few vendors on GB who have been local and more than happy to do local sale.

Patience Brother H, one will show in your area.

Also, you may want to put an ad in the want to buy section.

                good luck

                Edit:

                Close enough?
