Process for ordering from out of state ffl and having it shipped here.

What's the process of ordering from an out of state FFL and receiving at an FFL here??? Specifically for an off roster handgun (i'm exempt). Do I need to give the receiving FFL a heads up???Do they usually charge an additional fee???

You need to coordinate with the receiving FFL and make sure you know what his fees are. Some do it for a flat rate of $50 per gun. You will have to pay sales tax and DROS. Ask the receiving FFL to send a copy of his FFL to the sending FFL.

The several times I have done it, always on roster, I order it and use the local CA FFL's address as your shipping address. At some point after that you email the invoice to the local FFL and once they receive your firearm, go in and start the DROS. My FFL like to wait until they receive it just in case the S/N is incorrect on the invoice. Don't want to just copy that onto a DROS but verify against the actual firearm.

As far as fees, the local FFL will charge a transfer fee, DROS fees, and taxes if applicable. Mine charges a transfer fee of $25/firearm but it varies.

Your chosen local FFL will need to send by fax/email/mail - a copy of their license to the shipper, if they are not already on file with the shipper.

The shipper will ship the pistol to your chosen FFL.

Your local FFL will charge you a transfer fee usually $25 - $100 and up, so shop around first. Your local FFL is required to collect sales tax if there is an invoice or receipt in the box that shows what you paid.

Try to develop a relationship with your LGS guys and let them help you. I have gotten to be friends with my LGS manager and have his personal cell number. I can text him what I want and he will bird dog it and then LMK when he finds it. He can usually beat any price out there and doesn't charge me a transfer fee. I try to support them all I can much to my wife's chagrin....
