Looking for info on 1911?????

I have had Glocks and only Glocks for the past ten years. I think it is about time I break down and pick up a 1911. Can someone direct me to a web site that I can get GOOD information on the 1911. I know NOTHING about what people are doing to them to make them race guns. I have been searching around but there is so much general info on them. I am located in Los Angeles and looking to pick up a used one. thanks for your help.
