    descision to make...please help.

I want some 1911s. I know little to nothing about them other than I want em.

Did some reading and fondelling , I have never owned one.

In my quest... I came upon a situation where I can basically get one of two 1911s - for free ( dont ask ).

The two I speak of are:

    a. Sig GSR, stnlss w/ rail (has a broken ext extractor), high rd count.
    b. SW 1911 stnlss (ext extractor), high rd count.

From what I gather, the sig has a beefier slide and has a rep for feed and extractor issues.

The smith also has ext extractor and I hope the whole MIM parts thing is a bunch of BS?

So... If you could have one of either (for free, so "get a different gun" is not an option)... which would it be and why?

Hard to pass up free. But what is "high" round count, does it look beat to crap? Id go sig, but find out how much the extractor will cost you. It may have to be mailed back. But nonrailed 1911s are more common, so the rail would be the taking point for me.

your point about the rail makes sense. i guess go by how much the extractor costs the 1911 being free it still might be the better deal in the long run.

Depends on which S&W model you're talking about.

Take the Sig. The extractor is chump-change compared to the value of the pistol. If you're at all mechanically inclined, you can probably get the parts from Brownells and fix it yourself.

If you get a chance, run them both and see which you like more. They're both good guns.

Its crazy, but I cannot find a place that sells replacement extractor/sping for the sig revolution GSR. I just emailed sig and asked if I can order factory parts.

Anyone ever have to replace one? Buy one?
