New Springfield TRP Operator

Anyone know see this before? This mark was on it since I got it a few days ago. Have experienced a few ftf the first time shooting it with Wilson mags and Springfield mags. When cycling the slide there is a noticeable sticking point in the rear part of the cycle. Also very tough to break the slide free to cycle but that's loosening up now. This is my first 1911 so any input is appreciated.

Try different mags. Wilson makes a hole bunch of different 1911 mags. 1911's are very picky with their mags. I will say I have a Full Rail TRP as well and out of 1000 rounds I've had two failures. One was a FTE and one was a friend racking the slide like a wuss. I use Wilson Combat 10 rounders. They've worked pretty much flawlessly!

I used a Wilson 10 round stainless and some Wilson 500 bc-hd mags. That mark on the barrel is a little odd and the guide rod no matter how much I clean and lube it still feels a little dry and somewhat sticky.

Not too sure about the mark on the barrel, pic is too small but the wear is similar to the bull barrel guns that I have. The sticking point you are feeling is the slide riding over the disconnector. Tight is good and the fit will loosen up the more the gun is shot. TRP's do have some fitting on the slide and frame so it is going to be tighter than most production 1911's. If you think that your TRP is tough to cycle, you should see how difficult it is to cycle a new Pro.

That mark is typical. Every TRP I've seen has it. Its just the barrel wear the bull barrel gets. My TRP has the same wear marks as well.

I agree with chapped. The fitment will loosen as you shoot more. I wouldn't worry about that. My 1911 feels better each time I shoot it.

Strip it down to a bare frame clean it and lube it.

1911s need to be broken in so buy more ammo and stick to 7 or 8 rders cmc or Wilson etms. 1911s always have their pickings when it comes to mags even if they are the same exact gun. Weird? Yup, buy that's a 1911 for ya

The barrel on the trp op will look like that. Shoot it 500 rounds it should be nice and smooth after that.. Most of my NM Springfields are tight until 500 rounds in.

Send it back to Springfield they will relap the slide and frame for free.

thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to wait till I run at least 500 rounds thru it before looking into sending it in. Going to run it thru a competition and see how it does.

1911's like to be lubed. Make sure you've got oil on the barrel, barrel hood and the rails. Reapply every 100 rounds or so.

+1 on the advice to stick with either 7 or 8 round mags. Keep track of which mags give you problems and also take pics of the malfunctions. It will help in diagnosis in case the problems persist. If you still are having problems after you've shot 500 rounds, call Springfield. They DO have the best customer service in the business.
