Thought I was set on a M&P Shield, but...

Like the title states, I thought I was set on an M&P Shield in 9mm as a possible future CCW. However, all of the research I did at the time was when the Shield first came out. I never ended up getting one, but my interests for one have recently been peaked again.

However, does anyone have additional recommendations on other similar sized or smaller semi 9mm pistols that are commonly compared with the Shield when deciding on which to purchase or go with?

I guess off the top of my head, another pistol I have been considering in comparison to the Shield is the P238. However, I do like the price point of a used Shield, which currently seems like they are falling around $380-$400 in the used market.

Really? That's not some LEO/Mil price only type deal is it?

Edit - Just checked, yes it is only a LEO/Mil exception pricing at that price point.

The shield is a great Gun, I recently bought a like new p238 for $500 with extras. I went with the Sig because I plan on pocket carrying it and the shield was just a little large.
It seems that anything else in 9mm single stack is going to be above that shield price range such as the Kahr pm9, The glock 43 and the sig 938. I think I saw a pm9 for 600ish just a few days ago.

Not sure you'd find a better 9mm single stack in that size category.

$399.99 is the retail price around here. http://www.goldenstatetactical.com/S...1-p/187021.htm

I think the shield is hard to beat for a single stack 9 for CCW purposes especially in CA where it's on the roster. However, if you are looking at other 9mm pistols for CCW, these are a few good candidates. Some are not on roster, so that might mean additional cost via PPT.

I recently picked up a shield right when I turned 21, like someone posted, for the price I don't think you can beat it but I do think there are better options.

For me, I am very satisfied with the shield, it is very slim and easy to conceal, also it looks great but just my opinion. The trigger is very clean and crisp and has a decent reset, the trigger is a little on the heavy side, I think it's at about 7 pounds, it took me some getting use too but after a day with it, I couldn't be more happy with how the pistol was shooting and it felt just right in my hands. It's a fun little pistol to shoot.

I don't have much experience with other pistols but I was also looking at the sig p938, absolutely beautiful, slightly smaller than the shield but slightly smaller could mean a lot when it comes to conceal carrying. I feel the SA trigger on the p938 was also a little better but the price point killed it for me. The sights on the p938 were also nicer, I would've probably grabbed this over the shield but after shooting the shield I will probably end up with both.

I carry both the P238 and the Shield. I can honestly say that I didn't think there would be a huge difference between them. I expected the P238 to fill the role of a pocket gun, a role the shield is too big to fill. I didn't think I would carry it under circumstances where I could carry a bigger gun.
But, after carrying the P238 for a little while I can say that it IS much easier to carry than the shield. The combination of being four ounces (25%) lighter and significantly smaller, makes the P238 extremely comfortable to carry. My primary carry gun is a steel frame 4" kimber, but I find myself putting the P238 on more frequently than I expected.

I'm certainly not going to give up my Shield, and I still carry it frequently. But the P238 is certainly one of the best carry guns available to us in this state.

For a 9mm on roster pistol, you will not find one better for CCW. Off roster...it's debatable.

Thanks for the info. I would not be doing a pocket carry, but I like the idea of running a fairly light or compact pistol while it still being comfortable enough to shoot.

For 9mm, hard to beat Shield, XDs, Glock 43, Sig p938
                      For 380, Glock 42, LCP 380, Sig 380

I honestly prefer 380 for carry because I can pocket carry. My Glock 42 is my daily carry and I am one of those lucky individuals that can carry so I am so thankful.

My PF9 (on my CCW) weighs less loaded -

                        Than the Shield weighs empty.............

I went with the Glock 26. It is definitely a bit wider around the hips but you get 10 rounds, glock reliability and great accuracy out of the box. I think it's a very comfortable shooter but some people can't get over the lack of grip for the pinky so I would try it out first before committing.

I have the bigger brother also on my CCW (G33) - Get the pinky extensions and you're GTG.

Glock 26 is not that big, but for me during CA summer weather. Glock 26 can be little too big to CC in shorts.
