New Holster Causing BAD Wear Marks.

I got a tagua gunleather holster for my glock 19 and I have noticed something about it. On the inside of the holster it is not smooth like the outside and the stiching is HARD. like if I stick my finger in there and press down I could scratch myself. However, everyone at the gun store says this is an awesome holster and everyone loves it.

I understand if you carry and holster any gun it will eventually start to wear the finish. That is fine, but I put my brand new glock 19 (bought yesterday) in and out 10 times and there are already scuff marks on the front of the slide. In my opinion this is way too fast. I have a feeling the stitching will smooth out or soften along with the leather on the inside, however, I would like to know if there is any way to do this without using my gun to break it in. Maybe a conditioner, use the plastic bag method, even heard someone say mist the holster with water, use the bag method overnight and then dry the holster the following day.

The stitching is the problem I need to find a way to soften it without taking the finish off my gun. I was expecting to get wear marks after a few months and some serious "character" after a few years...not in under 30 seconds.

If you feel the need to say "AAARRRHHHh put your gun in a safe or frame your art work, blah blah blah." Save yourself some time and move along, I will disregard your post and just think you are another jerk in the group of jerks that no one cares about. I know this gun is a tool and I am fine with scratching and scuffing it... OVER TIME. Again not a 30 second holstering practice that makes my gun look a year old.

    Suggestions, products, procedures? thanks.

If you're going to be carrying it around it's going to covered in sweat and have wear marks. It's just part of the process I think you're worried too much because it's a brand new gun. You should take a look at the 1911 I carry. That gun has gotten some great scratches and dents and dings all over it.

Have you tried using some oil or something to rub out the marks on your slide? What you are seeing may not necessarily be finish wear.

The finish on Glocks do not normally wear easily. It may just be residue transfer from the holster.

Leather holsters come either unlined with bare leather inside or lined with soft suede.
The suede helps maintain the finish but over time wear will begin to show on blued guns. If you're handgun is being worn every day, then the finish wear is just something you'll have to put up with.

              ^This.

I don't think I own a leather holster that has a smooth finish inside. Most are either unfinished leather, or silicon treated suede. If you have a piece of stitching that sticks out get a pair of wire snips and cut it off, if it bother's you so much.

Go to the hardware store and get a can of dry silicon spray, and use it on the interior of the holster. It won't hurt either the gun finish or the leather. Lastly it's a Glock it's not going to win any beauty contests.

A "worn, carried" gun... the blasphemy!

                Carry the darn thing!

FWIW, leather will wear faster than kydex since granules of dirt, sand, etc. will be embedded in the leather.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

This is where you are wrong.

A new holster and a new gun will wear the quickest. No "eventually" about it.

Its like hammer - The first hits cause the most damage.

If you are going to holster the gun expect holster wear, not eventually, right away.

Try wrapping it in bubble wrap prior to holstering it. That should protect it for now.

Are you really trying to say that stiff stitching is scuffing your gun? I'm sorry, I just can't believe that. It might be leaving traces of the stitching on the gun but not removing finish from the gun.

I would try and rub out the marks on the slide; the glock finish is a good one.

If it is scratching the slide, break the holster in with the gun in a bag, or a plastic version of the gun, or use silicon spray to lubricate it, or some kind of oil or leather conditioner to soften the holster, or clip the stitching. That may help slow down the wear. But it won't stop it completely.

Finally, expect the wear to slow down as the holster gets broken in.

I honestly don't care about my guns having holster marks since I can carry. It's just the gun to me.

It's normal. Those scratches are a badge of honor in this state.

Also it's just a glock. Try posting some pictures.

Draw-EZâ„¢ is applied to the inside of your leather holster to shorten the break-in period and to provide a slicker draw. When applied sparingly to the interior surface of the leather pocket Draw-EZ will not be absorbed by the leather, alter the fit of th

That stuff will help the break in and slick up the holster. Mitch Rosen makes / sells something similar. Ah, found it http://www.mitchrosen.com/store/#!/L...ing/p/42633067

I personally don't like all leather holsters. I prefer the Crossbreeds (IWB) or pure Kydex (OWB). Easier to put on and much easier to re-holster. The Crossbreed horsehide versions are thin flexible and comfy. Also the smooth side of the leather faces the gun so there is less abrasion and less wear. If you want to try one on the cheap, go to crossbreedseconds.com

Some guns look good with holster wear. My Thunder Ranch has very little bluing left in places and I kinda dig it. I think Glocks look better with a deep black finish though.

Why would everyone at the gun store NOT say it's awesome and well-loved?

First world problem, but that's what holsters do to guns.
