Costs involved in Shipping - Transfer

    Guys,

There are many people here who will ship (sell) their personal firearms. These could be on the CA roster or not. These transactions are not for business purpose. My question pertains to those....

    * * What are the costs (process) involved? * *

    Thanks!

Well, you cannot ship an off-roster handgun for PPT purposes.

Check with your FFL for shipping rates of on-roster handgun. Most places will rape you on those shipping charges (on both ends as well, shipper and receiver)

When I shipped my pistol to nothern CA, it had to be overnight to an FFL, and it cost me $65.

You can sell and ship to roster exempt people.

But yes, shipping is damn expensive. You're best bet is to find a good FFL who will ship for you, as they can use USPS and get a MUCH better rate. I've heard as little as $25, but have no experience.

San Jose gun trader charges a flat $75 to receive and process.
An FFL can ship by USPS. Yep, $25 to $35 plus insurance etc.
Many gun shops charge $150 to receive from online vendors.
So its a matter of researching.
Oh, and expect to pay sales tax.
            You can't PPT by mail.
C&R guns don't matter with the roster.

You can't ship directly to a roster exempt person it has to go to an FFL.
USPS won't ship handguns - they have to go common carrier UPS/FedX. You can ship rifles via USPS. I sent one to a Virginia FFL and it was about $35. If you are a private person shipping to an FFL (they don't have to accept from a private person) they'll probably want a copy of your drivers license for the info in their bound book. Before you ship look up the FFL on the ATF web site to make sure their license is valid and only ship to the listed address.

Isn't there also a $25 NICS fee because of the interstate transfer?
