    Colt XSE product line discontinued?

I decided that I wanted to add a Colt 1911 to my collection and went to my LGS yesterday to see if they had one or could order one. I wanted something kind of basic as the starting point for a project gun. The XSE fit that bill as it is sub $1000 but has lo-pro Novak style rear sight (and milled slide) and a front dovetail cut so the sights can be changed. It also has a slightly better hammer and trigger than the basic GI model from my understanding

Long story short I was looking for model O1980 XSE but no distributor had any in stock or on order and the general consensus from my LGS was that the model may be discontinued with everything that Colt is going through right now. I tried Googling it and saw some people ask this same question on other forums but without a clear answer.

Does anyone know if this product line has in fact been discontinued? I ended up buying a basic model 1991 anyway, and will just have the slide milled for new sights at some point but I would rather have started with the XSE.

I bought mine at Reeds in Santa Clara a few months ago, might want to give them a call in case they have any left.

It's in stock at a couple of LGS in SoCal.

      Here's on of them.

I bought mine from them (01070 XSE) and couldn't be happier with it or the service.

it is listed in their 2015 catalog, but we are almost at the end of 2015.

if distributors are out, then it's time to start checking gun shops.

I found nothing official, but lots of forum posts out there thinking it is discontinued.

Buds gun shop appears to have some in stock at this time.

Thanks for clarifying that the XSE's are going out of production guys. I'm kinda thinking I should have taken my time and searched online first, but I already committed to the 1991. I'm still happy with the purchase though since my intention is to use it as the basis for a project gun, and it is still a Colt.

If I was planning on keeping it mostly factory spec I would be more disappointed. That said, I liked the idea of getting a stainless commander XSE like Ant45's in a few months but I guess there goes that.

Do you think these XSEs will go up in value once supply dries up? I like the Colt bluing, it looks amazing compared to other manufacturer's finishes.

They may, only time will tell. I'm hoping its a temporary halt in production seeing as Colt filed Chapter 11 in June. The company's financial situation is mainly a result of its government contracts from what I understand, and the fact that they were geared towards supplying the military more so than the Civilian market. But I believe their civilian sales have always been pretty strong. They will most likely increase production for the civilian market after the restructuring, and I hope they will start producing the XSE again. If they replace the XSE's with a brand new product line we may have some roster issues and then i'm sure the XSE's will go up in value in CA as we continue getting shafted by our awesome gun laws.

Called Colt may be around 2 months back, the reason they are discontinuing XSE is because its not their top seller compared to GI model, they want to focus on their top sellers and trim down product line that's not profitable.
