    Alan Tanaka or Apex tactical?

For a S&W 586 trigger job. No race gun. Just clean crisp and reliable.

You may want to call both and see what's the wait time for a trigger job. That may help you make a decision.

I have used Alan for some minor work (sight and safety install) and wait time was about a month on a 1911. This was a couple of years ago.

Alan is relatively short drive for me so I use him . Nice to be able to drop off and pick up a gun for work instead of the expense of shipping.

Agreed. I've talked myself out of a lot of custom work to guns because of shipping costs and the risk involved (I know a guy that lost a nice 1911 while in transit to a smith).

The 1911 master Jardine is only 15 minutes from me. But he wont even reply via email. Wont anwser the phone. A friend told me his turn around time is about 18 months. I would love to drop off a few 1911s to him. Apex is about 10 weeks turn around right now. Tanaka is about 8 weeks. Im leaning towards Tanaka. But will wait tell after xmas mail rush and cluster.

I've had Apex do 2 S&W n-frames and was thrilled.

I did my own on my K frame by swapping out to lighter springs. The Apex job was better but more $ as well.

              Where is Alan located?

Alan Tanaka, in Gardena, is considered one of the top 1911 'smiths in the country. Good guy. Easy to do business with. Top tier work.

On a S&W I would go with the guys at Apex. Randy is considered one of the best, if not the best in the country on S&W work.

On a 1911 it would be more of a toss up, but I would probably still go with Apex.

I do own a Tanaka 1911. He does fantastic work, but in my experience Apex does the best S&W work out there.
