Just practice. I only shot both eyes open now. They key is to focus on the front sight and not on the target. Check out YouTube for some helpful videos. I can shoot fast and consisted with both eyes open. I like to set up clays and run them both eyes open as fast as possible. When you can really focus o the sight post and be able to squeeze my pull the trigger you will have pretty good accuracy.

Also when I say practice I don't even mean with live ammo. I would sit and watch tv and practice presenting my weapon with both eyes open. In about 30 min I had it figured out where I needed to hold my weapon. When I could present it with both eyes open and immediately focus on that front sight I headed to the desert and was extremely surprised how quickly I could aquire targets

      I wouldn't worry about it
Can you hit what you are aiming at with one eye open?
If yes, don't sweat it and have fun shooting. If not, get training and talk to the head guy who should have some tips to help you out.
      Good luck.

        aimpoint

I took a primary arms micro red dot which is said to be almost identical to an aimpoint micro and tested it out along with an older aimpoint and a comp series. What I noticed was that of the 3 the comp has the largest and most similar field of view to blend with both eyes open. The smallest was the older mark III original aimpoint, and it was also the hardest to pick up with my eyes when drawing. The micro was pleanty good though and I understand you are using this on a hand gun and can't really go any larger. I have never tried a red dot on a handgun. I have read that Burris Fast Fire is a great option to look into, but would probably prefer a red dot myself. The micro is slightly harder to pick up with both eyes open. To use the optic with both eyes open you want to look at the target with both eyes open first, focus on that target, then draw your weapon and point directly at that target without using your eyes to aim. Just point the gun at the target naturally and the red dot will magically appear with in that region and look like a laser on the target. Since you can't go with the comp it will be a little bit more dependent on how well you bring the gun to target as to how easily that red dot will show up and allow your eyes to focus on the image with the dot superimposed. I would definitely buy that same micro if I was to go with that. Also Trijicon just came out with a new red dot similar to the micro. I'm not sure if it can be mounted on a handgun, but don't see why not. I suspect since it does have a larger field of view than the micro that it would perform much better and closer to the comp. The comp however does still have a larger view.

I wouldn't complain too much about 4-5" groups at 20 yards if you're consistent. This is combat effective. if it takes you 10 seconds to put that kind of group together shoot a little faster to find your failure point and take it from there.

Find your failure point starting at 7 yards and move back from there. Don't focus on 4-5" groups but see how fast you can neutralize the target and don't worry about your eyes too much. To each his own. Plenty of people shoot with one eye open, both eyes open, cross dominant, etc etc etc. Find what works for you and was is affective each and every time. Then once you're comfortable with that...move to something that isn't comfortable and then master that, i.e. weak hand/weak eye. Stuff like this keeps the range a challenge.

When I started shooting I was using one eye and I did that for almost a year and then switched to both eyes. Now that was difficult!! It took a little while but I eventually was able to do it. What I did was start close, really close..like 3yrds, then 5, 7, 10, 15, and so on. I wouldn't move out further until I was comfortable with the groupings. There's is no wrong or right way, as long you can get on target and pick up your front sight quickly you're good to go. Also you may want to try "point and shoot" since in some situations you may not have time to look for your front sight. Good luck OP

What Awampcrip said.Focus on the front sight so that it is cyrystal clear and the target is blurry. And practice until your trigger finger is sore.

Are you right or left handed? Are you right or left eye dominant? If you are not sure about your eye dominance take the test.

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. My left eye is also stronger than my right. Its really easy to get crossed up. If I just pick up a pistol and point it down range, I find myself staring at the left side of the slide because that is what the left eye sees.

There are lots of tricks to shoot with both eyes open, some of which have very limited utility in a combat situation. You can smear the lens of the dominant eye of your shooting glasses with Vaseline. You can tape the lens up. (Remarkably, not having to keep your dominant eye closed may help you shoot better groups.) In a combat situation, you can squint (not completely close) the non-dominant eye to help you pick up the front sight with your weak eye. Once I pick up the front sight with my R eye, I tend to stay focused on it and can fully open my L eye. Finally, as eluded to in the video, you can adjust your stance so your dominant eye is aligned with sight picture. In my situation, I have to tilt my head to the R so my L eye can look straight down my R arm.

                      Good luck.

Have you considered using a laser (green for effective daylight use)? I start by using one eye closed with the sights to get the laser dot on target (laser is aligned with front sight) and then open both eyes to focus on the object and laser.

My stepdaughter had the same issue, I covered her left lense with a piece of paper to help her focus using her dominant eye.
