    SIG P938 Guide Rod Launch

I have a P938 with less than 200 rounds on it. I took it to the range today to test some new Hollow points and the gun launched the guide rod to parts unknown. I know the grip screws come off every 40 rounds, but the guide rod separating before 200 rounds is ridiculous. Anyone have issues with their P938 guide rod?

What do you mean by Guide Rod Launch? Was it as projectile? Or "mushroom" head separated from rod itself? Any pics of broken parts?

You'd think a new gun could go 200 rounds without all threaded parts unscrewing. I wonder if SIG ever heard of loctite. Its kind of ridiculous the guide rod is two piece to begin with.

Call Sig Sauer, they will get you a new one shipped free of charge in a week.

Yes it's common on the 938's. Call Sig and they will ship you a other free of charge or just clean yours with brake cleaner and put some red loctite on it.

It would be tough to clean mine as its in the weeds somewhere, but I appreciate the advice. I will tack weld the rod when I get a new one. I can put a very tiny tack on it which if ever needs to be removed could be with a dremel. Beats loctite and checking the guide rod every magazine change.

The gun had only slight operating issues after the rod launched.

Update: Sig sent me a replacement this morning and instructed me to blue loctite it. All is well.

Interesting topic, neither of my 938s have had this issue, and ive shot both of them a decent amount. Will continue to monitor the thread and my pistols.

                      Sig guide rod probs

I had the same problem with my P938. Every 40-50 rounds, the guide rod would come loose and start protruding through the guide rod port. And just like yours, the guide rod kept coming loose from the second piece it was connected to so, some Red Loctite was added and havent had any problems so far. It just makes me a little nervous cause that gun is my EDC and I dont like the idea of Loctite holding my guide rod together. I think Sig really fouled up on a 2 piece guide rod.

The tack weld idea didn't go so well as I used too much amperage and the arc wandered into the machined part of the guide rod which rides the barrel. That said, the tack did hold and the pistol is 100% operable.

No. The correct size o-rings are the correct way to fix that.

Yep, it is common. Happened to mine, has not happened to my wife's.

When I received the replacement from Sig I used Rocksett on it as some have reported Loctite losening up due to the heat.

Top is my guide rod (missing the "rod" section) and spring after shooting a couple mags without the "rod". The bottom set is the complete guide rod and spring from my wife's 938. This happened over a year ago and both have been flawless since.
