being offered an option to get S&W 19-2 with 6" barrel in nickel finish, brand new with original boxes and papers... how much would be the fair price for it?

question on S&W 19-2 price

If it is in fact "brand new" it is definitely an honest $800.00/900.00 + gun.

It eats the copper underplating, then the nickel flakes/peels.
I am not sure which brands, I think Hoppes is one of them.Originally posted by Kestryll:

Not trying to be a wise guy but, how do you know it's "brand new" ?
Have you examined it in person or just taking another person's word on it.
Big difference in price, especially if the purchase is going to be an investment.Comment

A 19-2 is a fairly desirable S&W. Nickel adds a bit to the value and, of course, condition is everything. Add the box and papers and that is a very nice package.
The shorter barrels tend to bring more money so it is not going to bring the $ that a 2 1/2" or 4" will bring. All that being said I would gladly pay $800+ for one in the condition you describe.

Assuming the firearm is in the condition you describe I'd be looking at $900+ as a purchase price and if I was the seller I'd be looking to get $1000 for it in today's marketplace.
Reiterating the advice above, be very careful with nickel plated revolvers. The model you describe could have come out as early as 1963 and the plating can flake over time, especially from cleaning. If this is a collectable or "just shoot every once in a while" firearm for you then it shouldn't be an issue but if it's intended purpose is as a regular shooter you are paying a premium for a firearm that will probably lose value faster than it appreciates."A vote is like a rifle; it's usefulness depends upon the character of the user." - Theodore RooseveltComment

I have a 19-3 2.5" barrel 95%+ have original grip plus a nice after market set, shot very little but no box, papers or tools. It's blue was thinking $650-$700.
Very light turn mark. Not sure I'd sell it yet maybe to finance something else.
