Does anyone use a 1911 for your HDW?

Personally I would never trust my families safety and/or lives to a 1911, I have both HK and Glock at the ready to keep them safe.

My question is this: does anyone actually keep a 1911 as their HDW?... and if so...why? Do you believe that if your families lives were in danger, you could reliably defend them? If so, what models have you had success with?

What is your bias against 1911's based on? A gun that has been popular for over 100 years can hardly be called a failure.

I'm surprised this wasn't answered in your threads on "Whats your SHTF handgun?," "I have to admit Im not into 1911's," or "Best Handgun Ever made?"

          Yes.

          Wilson Combat

My Les Baers, Springfield, and Colt are my competition pistols.

          I know 1911's very well.

When rarely get out and do an IDPA competition I'll use the Wilson. But for the most part it's in condition 1 status at the ready.

In the event I am forced to use a pistol to defend myself and others, it will only benefit me to use a platform I shoot 600+ rounds a month.

1911s have been trustworthy for over 100 years. If you're afraid to trust their reliability, you're a victim of hype and advertising. If you're afraid to operate the safety on a 1911 under stress, you need to spend more time with 1911s. Believe me, it will be time well spent.

Out of curiosity, if you're really all set with your plastic guns, why even start a thread like this? For a guy who is not into 1911s, you really seemed to be obsessed with them.

              For example: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1106532

and I bet they both have proprietary magazines that cost more than $20 each.

Did you know the term "Cocked and locked" originates from how to carry the 1911 ?

I thought for sure you were going to be pro 1911 with your name.

                    Dam straight!
And in the unlikely event my 1911 failed, I back it up with a claymore.
Defending yourself with a Glock is just embarrassing.

100 year old design still in use around the world... Gun company that hates civilians and loads their mags backwards.

                      Obviously trolling.

I get it, I respect the design, I understand why people love them and will spend unlimited funds to have a one of a kind firearm.

For me personally, its not my thing, I like the feeling of polymer. Im an HK/Glock guy.

Every time I pull the trigger it goes BANG. I dont need to worry about reliability, mags, loads, anything.

Can anyone relate? or is it just me?

Why doesn't everybody eat off of paper plates and Tupperware everyday?

I have 2 1911's and they have been flawless since day one and no doubt id trust them but don't for the simple fact that if I do use it, it will be going in the evidence locker and I'll be out thousands of dollars. That's what my glock 22 is for so if they take it I won't mind.
