AR pistol build question…..

I have a question for the CalGun brain trust !
If I wanted to build an AR pistol do I have to get a specific “pistol” lower, or can you tell the FFL deler that you intend to make a pistol, and at that point he registers it as a pistol ? the latter sounds to easy (therefore it is most likely wrong ). Thank you for any information !

You can build a pistol from an 80% lower or you will have to buy a registers pistol lower used. New AR pistols are not available from FFLs, only private party transaction. You cannot buy an out of state pistol lower or buy a rifle lower and make it a pistol. The CA DOJ does not have an "other" option in the DROS so it must be transferred as a pistol or rifle.

Those days of having to make this decision have come and gone in CA.

So.. find one to buy from someone and do a PPT or, make an 80% lower into one.
