Should I send my Taurus back?

So after watching a YouTube video of a raging bull like mine (44mag) I found out there was a recall because once the hammer is cocked u can still open the cylinder. Anyone send theirs for this problem? How did it go? Charges for shipping ect? Is it worth sending? Time in total after sending it and receiving it? About 200 rounds with no problems. Should I? I have notice the cylinder is not a tight as when I bought it. Any input is apreciated.

The cost of sending the gun in via overnight shipping vs the worth of the gun...Tough choice.

You can hope they fix the problem on the first try, my dealings with Taurus repair would not leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling.

Meaning you can open the cylinder at full cock just by pushing on it, or do you first have to push the thumblatch forward & hold it there? I'm at work, don't have a revolver on me, but having fiddled with guns for a while am pretty sure you can do the same thing with a Smith - the hand is on the right, I don't think the thumblatch is prevented from being pushed forward when at full cock.

If it's the latter wouldn't the solution be "don't pull the trigger & push the thumblatch at the same time"?

when fully cocked my Ruger GP100 will not let the thumb release engage, nor will the cylinder come out...can't speak for all model revolvers, but, me thinks the possibility of the cylinder popping out isn't right

Correct Teddy I have 4 smith's and none let me engage the thumb release and open cylinder while fully cocked.

The act of the hammer being cocked (or the trigger being pulled in double action) should lock out the cylinder release. I've verified that on Ruger, Smith and even a Taurus (a .357 tracker in this case). The OP has found evidence of a recall for the problem. Contact Taurus and see if they will pay for the return since it is a defect they created and recognize. Have them tighten things up while it's back there.

The OP wonders about the cost and the time involved. He can also do nothing and if the cylinder swings open while he's trying to shoot the bear that's about to attack it would be one less complaining Taurus owner.

                    First, contact CS.

If there is a safety recall. They may/should send you a shipping label that covers the charges. Or direct you to the nearest Taurus Factory Authorized service center.

Never dealt with Taurus CS myself.

When my Taurus revolver failed and needed Taurus CS, I called them over a dozen times. I would tell you what they said if they ever answered the phone with a live person or returned my call. They never did.

I shipped the gun back to Taurus (via Turner's) and received the repaired gun back. No service report or other paperwork. Yes, they fixed the gun. I paid for shipping to their facility. They paid return shipping. Too this day, I have no idea what work was actually performed.

I sold the gun to a dealer and never looked back. Taurus is to the gun industry what Yugo was to the auto industry.

My PT145 Taurus is subject to the settlement recall, it was on the list when I bought it in CA, now it is not on the list, do you think CA will say the gun is illegal now and can not be returned to CA because it is not on the approved list?

If it's work performed on your current gun you're fine but they cannot replace it with a new gun if its not on the roster.

Agree. If not, they will send you a preprinted shipping label for $50 for warrantee work if it is older than 1 yr. They will pay return shipping. If it is less than 1 yr old, they will pay shipping both ways.
I did this a few months ago and it took about 5 wks. They did fix the problem.
