My Sig 238 just falls apart when I shoot it. Anyone else?

I bought a 238 as SSE came to a close (equinox finish, off roster) and the thing has been a real head ache. EVERY time I have been out shooting I look down to find out that a grip screw has been lost. The first time it happened sig sent me two replacement screws and told me to use locking tape on the threads (which I didn't do yet thinking I might change the grip at some point...)

Now, I was shooting at BLM land the other day and about 3 rds into it I realized the damn front sight had gone missing! Spent the next half hour sifting through dirt and casings around where I was standing and came up empty handed. Haven't come at sig yet to see if they are going to replace the sight or if I am on the hook for a $70 part.

But it just seams crazy to me that literally every time I have taken this thing shooting something has come flying off it. Throwing this out there to see if its an isolated incident with my firearm or if other 238 owners have had similar problems.

Not sure what to do with the damn thing. Haven't shot it enough to feel comfortable relying on it, and I certainly can't afford to replace parts every time I take it shooting, but i'd feel awful passing a lemon on to the next guy.

Sorry to hear that. My P238 is rock solid though.

For these issues you might get a larger response over at sigtalk.com as many there own a P238.
My HDW P238 has about 500 rounds fired and the grip screws and front sight are still tight.
Good luck and keep us posted as you progress through these issues.

I had a Sig 938 when I was stationed in Texas. Thing was a POS and after its third range trip with malfunctions I gave up and sold it.

I have since had issues with several other US made sigs and Im at the point where I won't ever buy another Sig unless its a custom shop gun. And if I have that kinda money I'd rather get an STI or another Les Baer or something along those lines than support Sig again

I have a 938 and 238. Lots of different ammo through both, and I carry both (mostly the 938 though). No issues at all. Great guns.

Sorry to hear of your issues. I have several SIGs (no 238 though) and mine have been very reliable.

I definitely understand your frustration, but don't give up on a nice little gun. The grip screws are no big deal. Use some blue loctite on there that way the screws will stay put, but you can still easily remove them if you decide to change the grips. Hopefully Sig will take care of the sights for you.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. Sounds like it's just mine. Honestly, i'm not the most diligent person in the world when it comes to maintenance, I just shoot em, scrub em and put em away... so maybe I could have caught the sight issue with some more care on my part. On the other hand, that thing was about as accurate as a 3" barrel can be (until the sight disappeared) so I had no real reason to suspect it was loose.

Haven't had a chance to call Sig yet but hoping to get around to it tomorrow or monday, so I will report back what my experience is. I've never had a problem with them before and frankly, they probably have a case for sticking me with the bill on this one... but obviously I hope that isn't the outcome!

I wonder how is the front sight "gone". Did it complete gone along with the part that's in the dovetail, or only the front sight blade itself snap off the base? Either way, I would contact SIG to see if you can send the slide in for them to install a new one especially if it's later scenario.

A drop of Blue Loctite should solve your problem.

Not isolated at all. My wife has a P938 and we lost the front sight not long ago. Once again like yourself I hadn't checked yet to see if Sig will fix it. Also had to lock tight down the grip screws. It's also fairly unreliable.

Sig makes crappy pistols IMO. I haven't owned or shot one that didn't have major issues in the details.

Edit: I should also mention ours is also an Equinox model.
