    DW Specialist cerakote

Looking for some input on cerakoteing a DW Specialist. I have stainless version and love the gun. But I'm a big fan of two-tones and was thinking of doing something special for my favorite lady.

Although I have no plans to sell in the future, I'm curious if you feel changing the finish would reduce its value.

    Thanks in advance.

Changing will probably take the value down a lil but it's your gun, do what makes you happy! I've got the same gun and while I've considered doing the same thing, I'm just going to shoot the **** out of it the way it is!

What color are thinking of adding? Because the DW duty treatment is pretty amazing.

A good way to minimize value loss would be to send it home to DW to be refinished. That way at least it's all OEM.

IDK of you have a certain look in mind but here are some suggestions of what you could do. I love a highly polished blued finish. Hot Flash does a blue mirror polish for $229.

Then a blue nitre parts would finish off the look.

Here's my duty treat Valor with some Sarge"s Honduran rosewood burle grips.

Beautiful grips on that last DW! Looks almost like a twin to Desert Iron Wood that I'm partial to.

OP, I've thought about a paint-on finish for my DW and LB also, but now I'm more about plated finished that won't wear like paints... I've duracoated my own guns before and when they're fresh and new, they look great, but after 500 - 1000 rounds they will show their age (even with Ceracoat), and that will bring value down when you're considering selling it... Of course, it costs less to remove paint-on finishes so it does have that advantage...

My stainless Valor will most likely get the NiB-X treatment, but that mirror blue CAGLS showed looks pretty awesome! Maybe a mirror finish black chrome for the bling effect and hardness...

I traded for a Dan Wesson recently and I'm having it cerakoted. Frame and slide in socom blue and the controls in a metallic grey like tungsten but a bit darker. Haven't decided on leaving the grips black or what.

My 1911 is cerakoted a very nice bronze with black accessories & controls. Very nice looking.

BTW, I saved a bunch of money and found a cerakote service on eBay that beat the price I paid local on another pistol. Of course, they can only do accessoires and parts like slides and barrels and triggers, safeties, etc (not serialized frames/lowers) as they are often no FFLs, but depending on your area and cerakote people, it might be an option.

That High Polish Blued looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing. I like the idea of bluing the slide. Does anyone know if bluing just the slide will have any negative impact if I leave the frame stainless? I didnt think you can blue a stainless piece.
