I'm going to guess it's a model 88, the 89 had adjustable sights. It looks like all the internals are there except the hammer block, and of course the side plate and screws.

Take a look here for the parts.

Well what is the barrel length and caliber?

I think I'm looking at a gun that has a nickel finish.

Are you missing the side plate or some internal parts?

      Rossi made these in.22,.32 ,38 and .357.

      Some more information would help.

Usually the number in the crane is the model number.

They list models 515 518 577 and others.

I have an 88 and it has a ramped sighted barrel and a different thumb latch.

The OP's gun has a small rear sight while the 88 only has a frame notch.

Is the gun marked Interarms? Interarms started importation in 1978.

It is possibly a model 68 as that has the low profile adjustable sight in .38 Special.

You have a Rossi that somehow arrived in the USA before Interarms started to import them..

That does happen and why I had to ask as it looks older than any that I have seen before.

The gun is a clone of a Smith & Wesson model 36 or if stainless a model 60.

If you are missing the hand, to turn the cylinder, then the hand spring is also missing as well as the hammer block.

There are springs which can be difficult to install if you have never done so before. There are instructions available on the S&W forum most likely a stickey in the gunsmithing section.

I have a diagram, which I have used for assembly, if that will help, I'll post it.

                        hand
                        hand spring
                        hammer block
                        side plate and screws

As far as I know but you need to check the diagram. The 68, 69, 70 all take the same parts. Is the firing pin on the hammer?

Numrich will show all the parts and pieces and part numbers.

You have a 68 so order for that one. My diagram shows all of them together and it is a Rossi manual.

PM your email and I will attach two jpegs for you to check over.

If you want a photo of my guns internals I can do that tomorrow.

Bangzoom, this is a long shot and maybe you would prefer the correct factory parts but I believe somewhere in my parts bin I have a side plate to a Smith & Wesson j-frame.
which I believe is the same as the model 60. (of course fitting it would depend how much of a exact clone of the Smith and Wesson it actually is.)

You could be the first kid on your block with a ..

                            Smith & Rossi ?
                            Rossi and Wesson ?
                            Wessi ?
                            Smossi ?

I remember the part having the nice old blued finish.

So you would finally have one of those two tone guns that semi-auto fans like.

A trendsetting style like that isn't for everyone but I know someone with your great sense of humor could pull it off.
