MC Operator

Hey all!

I've had my eye on the MC Operator for a couple years now, and I was able to purchase one out the door for 1300 even. (the two they had in the back had a couple flaws, but the display model looked and felt just fine)


People say the magazines jam... the clerk told me that due to the folded part getting bent in too far from repetitive loading, as with any .45 ACP magazine. True statement?

From owners of this handgun, are there any suggestions or links that you would suggest i take note of? Replacement parts, spare parts etc?

Also, I noticed the Pachmayr grips tend to stretch a bit on the torx screw heads, being that its a wrap-a-round design.
I have my eye on the American Legend Grip. I felt it on an Kimber Custom Target II and they were phenomenal.

I've shot a SA 1911 Loaded and I LOVED it. Mainly the look of the rail and the 'tool less' stripping and the little subtle features of the MC version had me sold.
That, and I'm left handed and right eye dominant, the slide release safety etc had to feel perfect.

Should I stick to manufactured rounds for now? Or would I be fine shooting reloads for the break in period?

I bought my MC operator at a Post Exchange where I'm stationed in California. It was 1215 OTD. 30$ of the gun for a sale and 10% off because of my first time use credit card. 1063$ altogether. I love it.

You can shot reloads... but just be sure because SA will not honor aNY damage cost by reloads.. i only trust my reloads.... if not I always use factory rounds, cheap ones from Walmart.

Not sure about followers going bad/bent general for the .45, other wise we would get more post about them. For maintenance and peace of mind, you can replace the follower when you replace the magazine spring. https://www.midwayusa.com/magazine-f...s/br?cid=16031Cheap insurance, or have them handily ready.

Reloads are going for about .26 and up per round.
Factory new are going for about .28 and up per round.
It's up to you (I would go factory new), but a few different brand and run those first.

As long as you get some reputible mags you shouldnt have any issues. Ive never had any using wilson combat or chip mccormick.

Love mine and it's my EDC. I didn't like the grips. Changed them to some Hogue ones that wrap around and have finger grooves. Works well when wet and with gloves.

The MC Operator was the first handgun I bought. I think the only thing I wish it had was a checkered front strap. Not an issue if you're running rubber grips that curve around the front portion though.

Reloads are definitely cheap and I'll make sure to look at reviews before purchasing.

When I broke in my MC Operator, I used reloads from Miwall. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. I preloaded my mags the night before, and shot the whole 500 in one trip to the range and never reloaded a mag. I use Wilson, but I prefer CMC PowerMags. Never had a problem. I also bought (years ago) some CMC knockoffs from CDNN for about $8 ea that were 8 rounders with rubber base pads. I've used them in all my 1911s without incident. I wish I had bought more.

I don't know about the claims of magazines jamming but my MC Operator loads and ejects very smoothly. ....both the factory and CMC mags that I have.

I personally don't like to run reloads in semi-autos. The exception would be if I ever decide reload myself. I simply ran a couple of boxes of different factory loads to see how they fed. Winchester and Remington ball/target ammo ran fine. Federal is next but I don't expect any issues since it's always been one of the better brands I have used in my other guns. Whenever trying a new brand/type of ammo I usually just buy a box and run them before deciding if I want to stock up.

Never noticed any stretching at the grip screws with my factory Pachmayrs but after looking at this photo when I first brought it home, there appears to be a bit. ....I'm sure I'll notice next time I pull it out (thanks for that). I was thinking of buying some replacement G10 grips before I even took delivery but after shooting with the Pachs, I might keep these on for a while longer.



Mine was $1100 from an online retailer (new in box; looked like it was never even taken out). After transfer, misc fees and taxes I was close to the same as you OTD.

I put some 10-8 Signature grips on mine. They have a great bite, but unfortunately they don't make these specific ones any more. I also put a strip of grip tape on the front strap, didn't want to spend the money to send to SA Custom Shop for checkering. The rear sight was replaced with 10-8 all black u-notch sight to help keep me focused on front sight.
Also replaced all my mags with Wilson Combat mags. Haven't had any issues going on 2K rds now.



I know the OD looks a bit off (obviously it's darker in real life...i LOVE the color). I'm not a very good photographer...
