Sig 2022 Issues

My Sig Pro2022 in .40 cal recently developed an issue. The slide does not lock back after the last round is fired (and no I do not limp wrist it). However, when I manually operate the slide on an empty magazine, it locks back every single time.

Any suggestions?

It happens after the last shot I assume.


Maybe defective mag? Did you try an extra mags?
Or maybe a very stiff slide lever spring.

It is possible your thumb is accidentally riding the slide lock from the side? The Sig placement of the slide lock is easy to do this with, especially if you are used to a 1911-style grip. The Sp2022 10 round mags use the same follower (with a shortened spring & magbody) as the regular capacity magazines, so I wouldn't expect any issues from that, even if they were very dirty.


*That being said* dirty mags did cause issues with last-round-holdopen on my 92FS, so it's definitely not impossible (the narrow 10-round followers got stuck on one side and tilted a bit on the last few rounds, basically), but those use a staggered/single-stack style 10 round magazine, and not a shortened double stack, as some Sigs and CZs (among others) utilize.

Mag spring could be a little weak, or ammo not giving a full stroke of the slide. And what he said ^^^^^ be sure your thumb is not riding it - do a test with exaggerated thumb away from slide.

If you never had a problem before - I'd look at mag spring and ammo. Also disassemble and detail clean the mag and follower. And be sure the slide catch is working freely, with no gunk slowing up the works.

My grip (thumb) was guilty of preventing slide lock back on my MK25 and my HK USPC 40.

Grip issue, I had the same issue when I bought mine. Changed the grip slightly and it functioned normal

Check you grip first, by shooting your 2022 left handed. If that cures your problem it is operator error

I thought I was holding my thumbs correctly but the slighest touch causes that malfunction. I adjusted my grip and the pistol ran like a champ.
