So has anyone bought an EMP recently (2015)? Did Springfield finally iron out the kinks?
Aside from the glued ejector issues I am unaware of any other problems with the EMP. I picked mine up 2/15 and for some reason mine came with the ejector already pinned. The only issue I had with mine was that it was so tight that it would not go into full battery on the first round when releasing the slide lock. At about 1000 rounds, it now functions flawlessly and is one of my favorite guns to shoot.

The only complaint I have and this goes for all SA's, are the night sights. The silver ringed Novak's suck and will eventually be replaced with Trijicon HD's.

Yeah the loose ejector is the problem that I was referring to. The EMP my local ffl had didn't come with a pinned ejector, and it's one of the newer productions :/ Guess you were lucky.

The only problem I have encountered is ammo related. It appears that Sellier and Bellot changed their primers recently. I've been shooting it for years with no problems. I had light primer strikes with failure to fire with the EMP. The EMP (and all the Springfield 1911 line) used a light firing pin with a strong spring to avoid the use of a firing pin block. This creates a reduced strength hit with the firing pin. I've got two EMP pistols and until this incident, I've had no problems.

I agree with Chapped Hide that the night sights of the EMP are difficult to see in the day.

My first EMP had it's rear sight loosen up so a QC slip happened there. That's the only "out of the box" problem I have encountered so far. That and the price tag.

My buddy at my LGS has a EMP that has thousands of rounds through it. It's an older one, but I haven't seen it have one hiccup. I just bought my EMP last week. It's waiting its 10 days in jail right now. I was torn between the EMP or a Glock 19 as a new Appendix carry. After playing around with the EMP I decided it was a bit better due to its profile. Plus for $1059 brand new I couldn't pass up that deal!

Springfield is also doing a promotion for 2 more magazines, spare mag holder and range bag all for free. So you will get 5 mags in total.

I'll have to look into the extractor issue. I haven't seen or heard of that.

Thanks for the reply, I was planning on using S&B as well.. Never heard that they changed their primer. I'll definitely look into that if I get the EMP (leaning towards it)

Let us know how it runs when you get it! And it's the ejector that's the issue not the extractor.

It's the ejector not the extractor. Look for the pin in the rail channel underneath to see if it's pinned or not.

I had the loose ejector problem on mine. SA fixed.

My front sight tritium failed twice, SA fixed. However that's probably more Trijicon.

Otherwise, no malfunctions except when the loose ejector was rubbing the slide.

Have one and it's very nice, that said the extractor had an issue (when new) with not doing it's job properly.

Dealer said easy fix, but sadly he was just no good at this.

I read you need a jig for proper set up, so sent to SA, they did some polishing on it as well as the extractor job, now over a 1k rds trough it it has zero issues, and this is wife's gun, & she holds it a little soft, but runs perfect.

I can hardly get her to shoot other HG, she will LOL but loves her 1911 above all.

Dad has one. I've fired 100 through it, he has maybe 500.

                      My observations:

Limpwrist sensitive - dad got lits of failures but I had none, only difference was grip

Magazines - the top round rends to pop out the magazine when you insert it into the gun with less than excessive force. This prevents you from inserting the magazine fully without completely removing the magazine and reinserting it, and also costs you a round. Happens with all three mags.

Difficult to clean - unlike the defender, it requires a special takedown tool, which can be a bummer

                      It shoots well, though.

Picked mine up in June, have right around 1000 rds without any issues. I tore it down and cleaned & lubed it before I ever shot it. My ejector is not pinned but so far hasn't been an issue.

A far as the teardown tool goes, it really isn't needed. The oem takedown tool is pretty worthless.

I bought another one off of ebay and it works much better. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMP-9mm-40-S...item27d0361ba5

Even with both of those I never use them. I just hold the slide in place and push the slide lock out from the back side. Putting it together is just as easy, no idiot marks or issues without using the tool. A non-issue for me.

Ive heard of people saying it requires a "special" tool. I've watched my buddy clean his all the time, and I recently just cleaned his after my last outting with it and we both have never used a tool. It comes apart just like a normal 1911.

My TRP FR requires a paperclip to hold the tension on the spring and guide rod, but no such thing on the EMP from what I've personally seen and done myself.

Theres no plug or barrel bushing like a normal 1911 to remove the spring out the front, and the spring/guide rod won't come out of the slide unless its compressed in some way to remove tension.

Don't know how he does it.

Hold the slide in the the takedown position and push the slide stop out using the little nub on the opposite side. Takes some practice but it can be done.
