    S&W Model 19

I have an opportunity I may need to move on. What is the value of a Smith & Wesson Mod. 19 revolver in California, given that this model is out of production and not on the roster?

I paid $450 for a mid 70's manufactured(pinned and recessed) No. 19 in 4" back in February. It is in very good condition.
If it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'til it is...

Wow, it really depends on the model. Pre-lock? Pinned and recessed? Collectible or shooter?

Yeah, I should have mentioned something about the condition. I believe it’s of 1970s manufacture, which means pinned and recessed, does it not? Looks to be like new and possibly unfired.

Recent listings show a wide range of prices from below $300 to above $800, so I don’t know what to make of them. I’m no S&W expert, but a Model 19 looks like a good way to fill the .38/.357-revolver hole in my collection.

Oh, and I wouldn’t want to spend too much or hold out for too little as the early production runs start to enter C&R status.

Length of barrel will play a part in the price. The 2.5 inchers will generally fetch more than the 4 and six inchers. I have a 2.5 blued with a bobbed hammer. Great little carry gun. You can't really go wrong in owning a model 19. Good luck on your purchase.

This one has a four-inch barrel. For me, it would mostly be a range or training gun and not intended for carry.

I would say at least $450 and as much as $650 depending on exact condition and if it comes with original box and contents

                Data points

I have bought two S&W model 19s this year, one for $445 and one for $550. They are both 2.5 inch guns and are shown below:

I picked up a 19-5 4" with some rust spots for $250. I was just lucky.

If it's already fired then, if it ever had true commemorative value, it is gone now.
Unless, of course, it is of special interest to you.
Sounds like a fresh one ready to be shot a lot to me.
Good luck on getting a good price!

                            Matthew,
Very few commemoratives really hold their initial value well. Usually that's because of the number made available at issue and everyone keeps them as safe queens. This means it's not hard to find a minty one for the most part. After six years, if your commemorative hasn't held its value or gone up, it probably won't in the future.

As for Model 19 prices - you're right, they're all over the place. I've seen mint condition 4" 19's for $400 and up to $650. I've seen minty 6" guns from $350 to $585. The pinned & recessed seem to bring a little extra value (about $50) with the 2.5" typically bringing the biggest dollar amount.

I probably wouldn't go over $500 for a LNIB Model 19 simply because there are so many of them out there. This was one of S&W "bread & butter profit" guns for police during the heyday of the revolver.

Here's a 6" 19-4 that I bought in April of this year for a mere $375. Very mint, except it looks like someone put a 6" barrel on a 2.5" round butt. This one I need to letter.

Unusual Model 19, 6" on RB frame with Patridge sight.

This is a 19-5 purchased about 3 years ago for $350 with less than 50 rounds fired.

And this 2.5" M19-4 came as part of a bundle deal for which I estimate I paid about $350 for the M19.

                              S&W Mod 19 I would go $400 to $550 shooter. Collector higher.
