    Apex Trigger Options

    Hi All,

Need some advice from the experts

Apex offers different options for work to be completed on a handgun, as well as different options for parts/etc.

Not looking for race gun mods, but definitely open to a smoothed out, lighter-pull striker fired handgun.

Any advice on what to avoid and what to look into?

    Thanks!

I put an Apex DCAEK in my M&P 40C and love it. It took the trigger pull from 6.5 lbs down to 4.5 lbs and a very smooth trigger.

Apex Flat FSS in both M&Ps. My VTAC originally had the DCAEK but I replaced it. Really nice trigger and significant change. Never sent one in though and I'm guessing it's quite a bit better though at a cost

Would you carry/bedside/HD this level 4 package gun?

The FSS has less takeup and shorter reset than the DCAEK. Both are big improvements. Don't rule out the polymer trigger, it has a great feel to it. Also, find out if your pistol is compatible with the RAM device, and get it if is.

                +1. It's a great upgrade.

The apex fss on an m&p is by far the best trigger I've felt on a striker fired gun

I had a Apex DCAEK installed om my M&P 40C as well. For whatever reason I started getting unplanned double taps. Took it back to the gunsmith who remover the Apex sear and put my stock one back in, but kept all the other Apex mods.
Solved the problem with the dtaps and still left me with a smooth clean break.

                    I too love it

I believe the Shield already has an improved trigger over the standard M&P. My buddy has an M&P VTAC and the tigger is just awful. My stock Shield is quite good, on the other hand: I've felt no need to replace it.

                        +1 for the Flat FSS.

I had the DCAEK in my full sized M&P45 and replaced it with the flat fss... so much better. It really does shoot like a 1911 now (or as close as a striker fired gun can get).

I went with the aluminum forward set sear kit. The silver spring is pretty light (at 4 lbs. ) so I recommend installing the green 5 lbs spring

If this is really a HD bedside gun, you honestly don't need anything. I bought my M&P40 as a range gun and stubbornly tried to perfect my shooting without going the Apex way. The frustrating thing about it was that I was inconsistently good (all 10 shots inside 2" @ 10 yards) one day, then what felt to me was terrible (4-5" groups with only 1-2 in the 2" circle). When shooting from a rest, the gun was easily capable 1-2" groups so it wasn't anything other than me. When using a 9mm barrel, my groups were better and more consistently good so I knew it was also partly an anticipation problem.

After 3-1/2 years, I finally broke down and bought the Apex FSS kit and it really improved the consistency of my groups. What I found out was that the overtravel was causing me to pull the gun to the side or down right as the trigger broke. Better follow through would also have improved my groups and I proved it to myself when I bought a new stock trigger group and put it back in the gun. I reinstalled the Apex FSS kit and still prefer it but for "minute of bad guy" HD, the stock trigger would have been fine.

I also have a Shield 9 and have left that stock. I got mine in April and it has a pretty stiff trigger. Way stiffer than what my stock M&P40 had. 4-5" groups is fine for that gun. You can see that for a self defense gun, it is likely to be quite adequate. The little holes in the left targets are from an SW22A-1 with an $18 red dot sight so you can see that without recoil and a nice trigger, I have the potential of keeping decent groups at 10 yards.
