Does it look like there is something wrong with this?

I just bought an used gp100, my first revolver. I have not been able to fire it since it is still in jail. However, the original owner gave me the cases he has fired with this revolver. Pics attached. Is it just me or the firing pin impression looks off center to you? Is this normal for GP100? I will appreciate any suggestion.

No worries. Many firing pins are not dead center.

I know you already have it in jail...

But there are some good videos on u tube by midway USA on inspecting a used revolver.

Most modern guns are solid and most don't shoot them enough to wear them out.....

But newbie or not the videos help you determine if there is an issue before you buy used.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
          (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

yes, I know i should have done my homework better. I am watching the video. Fortunately, the seller is a very nice guy, patient and honest. He even gave me some good tips on inspecting used firearms.

The other bit of good news is you have chosen a fine first handgun.

              I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

thx. yeah, I can't wait to bring it to the range. BTW, it is my 1st revolver. I do have some semi-autos but still learning how to shoot them well.

Hopefully you got the 6 inch barrel over the 4 inch.

Slightly off center strikes are not an issue IF they run the same in all cylinders. On yours it looks like some are dead center and some are off. Could be a timing issue on one or more cylinders. Check the sticky at the top of this forum on "how to tell is a revolver is any good," There's some info on checking the timing in there. Doesn't look like anything's too far off, but check it out. Also bench rest the gun and see if all cylinders shoot to the same POA. A flyer coming out of the same 1 or 2 cylinders all the time indicates trouble.

Just as many people love their 4" GP100 as the 6". I'm usually a fan of the longer barrels, but I went with the 4" GP and never regretted it. Probably will buy a 6" at some point, though.

It's fine and should go bang. Enjoy your revolver!

Good advice. I will check it out. BTW, thinking of getting some .38 special for it. Is freedommunitions 125gr good? I stopped using their 115gr 9mm after about 2k, hearing some issue about it recently.
