bulged barrel on new S&W 627

Well that's one way to ruin a day.

Picked up a 627PC a few months ago and finally managed to take it out to the range 2x. Put a total of maybe 300 rounds down range starting with some 158gr SWC rounds, then some 125 and 158 gr Jhp rounds.

Cleaning the barrel this even, I noticed that the resistance when scrubbing the barrel varied at a specific spot.m I paid a bit more attention to he barrel and there's a visible bulge about 2/3 of the way down he barrel.

No squibs or odd feeling shots, so I'm certain the barrel was never completely blocked. Would there be enough lead build up from the up jacketed rounds to cause a problem from the jacketed rounds? Got me. I guess it's time to ship it back to S&W and see what they say.

Google distorted S&W barrels. They've had issues with distortion from overtorqued barrels from the factory. My understanding though is that the distortion is usually right next to the frame. I could be wrong on that.

Never heard of a bulged barrel 2/3 down unless it had a squib load blocking it. Let us know what they say about it.

I'm headed to start DROS on a 627 Performance Center I put a deposit on tomorrow.
I looked it over pretty closely before having them set it aside.

Keep us updated on what they find please.

Leading from the SWC's could definitely have raised pressures on the JHP rounds to a point you bulged the barrel, not highly likely, but definitely possible. There are a number of reasons why I don't shoot jacketed after lead without a thorough cleaning.
