A little Sig P226/P228 Labor Day fun

So basically I had a parts kit of a German P228 lying around and been searching to no avail for a lower to make it a complete firearm. I'm a huge fan of the German made Sigs especially the folded slides so I just got to thinking. How can I get this to work on my P226.

Well since the barrels are different between the two I did some measuring and realized that all that needed to be done was to open up the port on the P228 to accept the barrel.

So after about two hours of milling in excitement I realized I had not taken any pictures until I got to filing and shaping the port. But here are the results. My guess is it will function perfectly. Note that I had just replaced my P226 Barrel from 1992 so it was actually my spare to do these measurements and actually test for fit and function. Now to do a live fire test and then send off for refinishing

Started taking pictures at the filing and shaping stage

    Fitting the barrel

Here it is next to its big brother

    Ready for some test firing

Looks great OP- you sure are brave- I do not trust myself with tools- I have learned my lessons in the past with my dremel experiences. Let us know how it goes at the range. Happy shooting.

      Thanks

Well...key word is dremel...the only thing i'll be using that for on this project is the buffing and polishing. my guess is though if I had created a jig for the dremel it might have been ok. I basically took off about 3/16 of material and slowly filed away until the barrel had a nice tight fit. I'll let the action of firing smooth the rest of it in.

A little Sig P226/P228 Labor Day fun

Sorry, we couldn’t find that page

I know it kinda defeats the purpose of concealing a P228/P229 but it shoots really well with the length of the P226 grip

        7 yards with a P226 barrel and recoil of a P228 slide

        It's a fun experiment

Thanks guys. A guy who worked for Sig was at the range today and he thought it was pretty cool.

I guess I don't follow...did you machine your slide to accept a barrel? Aren't you supposed to machine the barrel down to fit into the slide?

No you can't machine the barrel down because you'd also have to machine the barrel stop where it hits the locking block. the 226 barrel is wider and longer and contacts the locking block farther forward so the spacing would be incorrect

So yes I did machine down the slide to accept the barrel not the other way around

226 in the rear and 229 in the front. Notice shape is different as well

There is a file online to mill a whole lower from billet but don't have a ghost gunner machine or any other type of CNC
