Carrying a Sig P220 Combat with light

I have a Sig P220 Combat coming and planning on putting a Streamlight light on it. Will be mostly for home and range but am putting it on my CCW permit as one of 3. I will be primarily carrying a Shield but in winter, am thinking about carrying this on the hip with an OWB holster.

Is it unrealistic to carry this around with a light jacket or windbreaker? I have a P226 with the same light and have an IWB holster and this thing is heavy and uncomfortable. The P220 is exactly the same size with a thinner grip so hoping carrying on the hip OWB will be better. Just wondering about the concealment issue. Is anyone successfully doing this day in and out, at least in the cooler months with a full sized gun with a light?

Any handgun with a light for CCW is overkill IMHO. Too big and too much weight.

^ agreed. Are you going to be clearing abandoned warehouses at night?

Stick around and I'm sure someone will convince you to add a lazer and a spare mag pouch, along with another "back up" gun, as " two is one and one is none", or other such nonsense some here think applies to CCW

Do you guys always get home before dark? If you want a light on your carry Gun go for it.

I'd put it on there in case you ever went hiking or something you will be covered whether is on your hip or in a pack.

EDC is something else that you will have to try as it's similar size to the 226, same width of slide. But I would not try to have it with a light on my hip.

I know someone who carries a p220st every day inside the waistband. Extreme heaviness.

So go ahead. It's not the most convenient setup but it's doable.

Agree. As utilitarian as it may be the light is going to add alot of bulk to an already bulky gun. In an OWB that setup will look like you're carrying a Walkman under your jacket.

It's convenient to carry a hand light. Bonus of not having to muzzle sweep everything you want to light up.

If you are going to have to "go looking for someone" with a weapons mounted light you just left the realm of immediate self defense and are now prepared to "hunt someone" like a LEO would.

Putting a light on a CCW makes concealing your carry unnecessarily difficult while not adding anything in a typical "on the street" CCW leather force situation IMHO.

My CCW guns wear night sights and that's it. My home defense gun wears black sights and a Surfire X300.

Just because you can "bolt it on" doesn't mean you should.

I knew I would get flak for the light.

Ok, here is the deal. It's a light/laser combo. The reason; I wear contacts and my prescription does not allow me to focus on that front sight (sight is too close). With my contacts out, it's even worse (sight is too far).

I basically use the sights to get the laser in view and then open both eyes.

Maybe this should be another thread but my Shield is set up with a laser (not light) also.

I know it's not ideal by any means to rely on a laser and I do practice at the range with sights only and in bright sunny conditions, I do ok. When it's darker out, I just lose that front sight (and I've tried big orange dots, night sights, etc,)

In any case, I find a light and green laser to be a great set up for me. So I have to figure out how to carry it or pony up for LASIK [emoji14]

I carry a 220st in an IWB holster, and a combo mag/flashlight pouch as my CCW.
Heavy, but at most time I don't care.

As long as you feel comfortable and have clothes that will allow you to conceal it well, go for it.

I would try the 226 OWB. I think OWB vs. IWB is going to be the big difference rather than the wight and grip thickness of the 226 vs. the 220.
