Springfields 1911's on back order for a few months?

A friend and I went to Irvington Arms today to order a Springfield 1911 PX9109L and the guy (not Martin) said they were out of stock on the handgun. When we asked when could they get another they mentioned it's sometimes a few months before they ship another batch.

Is this normal for a wait time on Springfield 1911's?

    Thanks,
    Rob

Yes it is. What model are you looking for? This is a very typical thing for Springfield Armory.

Well, Irvington Arms is correct. All 5 of the ditributors I checked online are currently out. Sad part is, these guns were available in large numbers 2-3 weeks ago. You might want to check Targetmasters and or Reeds. They will be your best bet right now if you want the gun without waiting. To bad you aren't down in SO CAL, Turners has them in stock right now.

Call Markley's in Watsonville. It's a good 1 and 1/2 hour drive from you but I was there last week and they had 4-5 springers in the display case. The clientel there are more rifle people and(unfortunately) banger-look alike so I imagine the old yankee fist are selling as fast as say, a Garand or a Glock.

Try out door world too. They alsways have a few Springfield too. like markleys the people in this part of the county aren't too big on 1911s.

I know its out of your way but Old Sacramento Armory recently received a shipment of Springfield 1911s not too long ago. You might want to get them on the horn and see exactly what they have.

Springfield is dependent on the production schedule of Imbel. When Imbel slows down or has a labor issue, SA can't import the guns. Summer is always a slow time for production in foreign countries.

Thanks for the info. My buddy is getting a better deal from Irvington Arms and the wait not be too bad, he's not in a rush to buy. Still going to call Springfield and find out the delay, I'm interested in a 1911 myself as well.
