RECOIL REDUCTION ON A COMPACT PISTOL

    I have a 9mm S&W pistol (mod 6904) with a 3.5" barrel.
Is there a was to reduce the recoil on this model?
I've read about recoil reductions done on 1911 style 45s as well as on Glocks but have not encountered any for the S&W.

    Appreciate your inputs.

    Handload.

Lighter bullets will give less recoil. Stick to 115gr bullets.

Sell it to me. You will feel no further recoil.

It's a S&W semi-auto pistol that isn't an M&P. If you can feel recoil, then you should thank the heavens that your gun even fires.

Lighter loads is the best way to reduce the recoil, though a 9mm shouldn't be hard to control, even as a compact.

Sounds like the Springco might help you out. Also to clarify, is it the muzzle flash/blast that is bothering you or the actual push/snap in the hand?

If you want a cheaper alternative to a fancied up guide rod, you can also buy a pack of different recoil spring weights- tryt hem all out, and use the heaviest one that still lets your gun cycle. It will feel like it kicks less sharply.

Also, adding weight helps, but I don't know if they make any such thing for your S&W- a pair of jhogue rubber grips would help too.

Some simple low cost solutions that I've found to have both a positive mental and physical effect on recoil / blast:

If it's the push/kick that bothers you: Try and ace bandage type wrist brace and/or gloves.

If it's the noise/blast: Shoot at outdoor ranges, and/or wear earplugs under your earmuffs.

If this is one of your first few times shooting, I recommend setting the 9mm down for the next few sessions and renting a .22. The .22 will help you hone your skills with out the distraction of recoil / blast. Eventually you'll be shooting magnum revolvers one handed like it's nothing, it just takes some working up to.

Hell I'm not. Is the OP really complaining about recoil of 9mm? And recoil in a 9mm whose barrel is so short the round doesn't even develop it's full velocity potential, because some of the energy escapes prematurely??

The high bore axis creates more muzzle flip.

I'd like to see how you hold the pistol post a picture.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

You could try some Hogue soft rubber grips too:
