    HK USP question

I have recently been fascinated with HKs. I'm looking to purchase my first HK handgun and would like some insight from you all. I have never bought a used gun before, but I am looking to buy a used USP 45 with an AH date code. The owner says its in excellent shape with no abnormal wear and only 300 rounds through the barrel. I was able to determine that this is a 2007 model, but I was wondering if this is still considered an up-to-date model? I have read about some of the differences throughout the years, but haven't been able to find any information regarding updates since 2007 and up. Thanks for any info and advice you can provide.

Having owned a 2007 USP45 and handled a 2012-ish one, I did not notice any differences between the two. I don't think H&K has changed much in recent history.

I had a 1999 USP .40 that shot fantastic until I sold it recently. I think in thousands of rounds I might have had one ftf.

A USP is a USP. Sounds like the one your looking is basically brand new.
I bought a police trade in made in early 2000s with a lot of holster wear and smileys and it is perfect. Extremely accurate. The barrel will outlast your lifetime. USPs are solid, well built, accurate guns.

Those guns are freaking tanks, I wouldn't worry. And no, nothing has changed since 2007.

The USP series only really had one update from their early 90's models when they changed in 2000-ish.

Easiest way to tell is the date code the older ones start with a K letter code while the newer ones either a A or a B letter code.

Only real changes was the newer hostile environment finish that is a little more durable and is black in color vs the older matt-blued finish. Polygonal rifling which is a huge improvement, and the last thing was a minor design change that made the pistol stronger/safer.

Depending on the price you are good to go. Always regretted not also getting a USP in 45 to go with my 9mm fullsize.

Make sure to hold it before you commit to buying. I love my USP 9 so I went to the shop to buy a USP 45. The grip on the USP 45 is bigger. The difference was enough to prevent me from buying it.

Thanks for all of the info. I'm really excited to get a USP. This one is a tactical.

The USP is an outstanding weapon. I carried one for my last 12 years with the Sheriff's Department. Never had an issue with it, and never heard of any other deputies having any problems.

I'd prefer a metal framed weapon. The balance seemed a little awkward, but that was only a minor nuisance.

I would give the HK45 a quick look before you finalize your decision. They're very similar, but the HK45 is newer production. I think they're equal in terms of quality and performance. It's really a question of what works better for you.

I've seen a lot of people complain about the groove in the trigger guard. Plus, I like the +2 capacity over the HK45.

If you're looking at the "Tactical" version, make sure that it has a California legit barrel. The factory barrel can get you three years in prison.

I bought one of the very first versions of the USP (9mm) and when I slam the magazine, the slide goes into battery automatically. I think the newer versions don't go into battery so easily.

Hey guys. I've got a new HK45 that has seen about 1,500 rounds through it so far. A couple days ago, a buddy of mine was at the range with me. I let him run a few rounds through the pistol so that he could see if he liked it. He took a magazine loaded with ten rounds and slammed it pretty hard...

Thanks. I'm aware of this issue. I will get a separate barrel.
