SP01 stainless guide rod and spring

I know it's not necessary to change the stock, plastic guide rod but if one was going to go with a stainless guide rod from CGW, what pound recoil spring would be suggested to go with it?

    anything from 11lbs-18lbs will work.

I saw those on the CGW site for $22. What advantage does the SS guide rod provide?

Advantage? Virtually none. It's more an aesthetics thing.

The SS guide rod weighs more so there is a little more weight at the muzzle to control recoil.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

I run a 10 lb recoil spring with ammo ranging from 130 to 135 PF. It requires you to grip the gun a little harder but it cycles faster and smoother.

For folks that are looking to explore recoil springs i suggest checking out the CGW Tuners Pac. The pac contains 5 recoil springs from 10-14#. This allows one to experiment with different weights and their advantages/disadvantages.

Yep, I'm familiar with the spring pack...but I don't really want to spend $30 to end up using one $6 spring. I was looking for input on what ONE spring others may have ended up using in their SP01. Guess I can always call CGW and ask for a suggestion on what poundage to get.

Two SP-01's, both with stainless guide rods and both with 11lbs recoil springs for me. Never had an issue. I shoot USPSA weekly with several guys using SP-01's or 75's, they all use 11lbs springs. They all seem to run really well.

I noticed when I switched up to the steel rod and 11 lb spring, I had zero failer to feed. My spo1 had issues with some light loads before. FYI

Here is my suggestion that works for most folks who use the SP01 and its Shadow variants.

                        115g to 135g, use an 11lb spring.

                        135g to 160g, use a 10lb spring.

The 135g will work well with the 10 or 11 lb spring, YMMV.

I wasn't aware that the compacts had different weights to choose from. I think they are 14 lbs from the factory.

For my Acu Shadow Lite and the 9mm SAO, I just stick with the 11lb spring.

I use a 10 lb spring for my CTS Long Slide Shadow on the S.A. frame.
