I think if you want a true HP, you have to go with FN. If you don't care about that, then get whichever specimen is in better shape.

Bacon is winning. No surprise there.

I have two Israeli surplus FNs. I yanked the mag disconnects out and they are fantastic shooting guns.
Are you ordering from Cole's Distributing? Keep in mind that their photography is terrible and the pistols look much better in person than they do in the listing.

Go for the Israeli HiPower at $350, since $500 is over-priced for what you get. If it isn't available at the price, save your money for something else.

Really? I paid $550 each for my two Israeli surplus pistols. They are both in excellent condition and appear to be rarely if ever fired. The only dings are a few on the left grip, with flawless right side grips, meaning they were holstered and carried some.
Both of mine are Mk IIIs with the useable safety. Sights are the later, useable sights. Triggers are excellent after removing the mag disconnects.

New Hi Powers go for $1,059 around here and the only difference is the glossy blue and the wood grips. I would say I got a good deal.

To each their own. I paid $365 OTD for a surplus German Sig P6. I would value surplus Hi Powers about the same. But since I'm not buying the gun, the actual buyer has to decide what they consider a good price for themselves.

                            I agree with your sentiment.

I bought mine to keep as they were.

If I were looking for a platform for a custom build, the cheaper Hungarian clone might be the way to go.

I'd go with the FN just because it's an FN. I have an FEG, and it is a great gun with a nice finish. I took out the mag safety and the trigger is nice. FN Hi Power parts fit. I had to replace the sear in the FEG and a Browning part fit in perfectly.
