Even if I was lucky enough to find one, I'd have to pass on cost alone. Nice snake btw!

Very nice snake C&Rcollector. Now peel off the Pachmayr "GRIPPER" and admire the hidden fluted backstrap that matches the fluted trigger face. Total Colt sin to do that but at least they continued to flute the backstraps on the "Gripper" models.
I've owned my 6" B STS since new for twenty-five or so years now and finally two years ago got around to finding/buying a set of Colt factory NOS period correct Gen III checkered walnuts. As jyo posted, the checkered walnut stocks are torture on your hands even shooting .38s but they sure are pretty to look at! I don't shoot my Python much any more but if I did, the "GRIPPER" would go back on as I'm not a fan of gloves.
EDIT: Just noticed that your Python is of the earlier stainless models produced as it has the double pinned front sight-mine has the later produced single pin front sight. It's little things like this that add more value to your Python!

I already have my eyes on a pair of Walnut gen III grips, but damn are the prices high.

Yes they are and they will be even higher tomorrow! Check over on coltforum.com in the "Python" section and open the classifieds as there are usually Python stocks for sale. I got mine on gunbroker-the seller turned out to be a very respected collector/dealer on coltforum.
More good news for you: See the "EDIT" to my earlier post above.
