    1911 Ramped Barrel Installation

I built a custom 1911 .45 with a TM frame, government profile. I am not pleased with the barrel feeding, seriously pondering buying a Storm Lake ramped barrel. Does anyone know a place or fellow who can do the necessary cuts to fit the barrel properly, without raping me in fees? Any info would be appreciated, I just need a referral to a competent 1911 gunsmith. Thanks in advance gents.

    Location?
This is important in a state as large as Cali.

If you are looking for a local gunsmith then a location would be helpful.
An internet search may be productive if you are willing to send the firearm off.

When you find the gunsmith, perhaps consider having him install a match fit 1911 barrel instead of a ramped barrel? That is, if you're sticking with 45 acp. Most ramped barrels have a ramp depth of ~.300", which is no problem for 9mm, but the 45 acp needs a ramp depth of ~.420" and ramp angle of 31-32 degrees for the best reliability.

Randall of AR15Barrels in Van Nuys can probably do it while you wait by appointment only.
His rates are fair and reasonable for the superb machine work he does.
He does know the 1911, too.
He's a poster here, email or text him.

                  Cal Hunter:

Thanks for the heads up. Did not know that.

Bolsa Gunsmithing in Westminster quoted me $150.00. Not so low, as to be suspicious or too high. Much better than $300. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

An old fart but really knows his way around a 1911.

                        Being north of

Yeah ramped barrels aren't a good choice for 45ACP.

It also might be hard to find someone to work on a home built gun. I know my smith won't touch them. Best to ask before driving any distance.

Also, if you want to tackle it yourself, you should check out kuhnhausen 1911 volume 1&2. Great books for all things 1911.
