S&W Pre model 10 needs fixing

Hi I have my grandfathers old duty gun its a s&w pre model 10 with 5" barrel.
He carried it in the 50s has a lot of sentimental value. It was the only gun he kept.
Anyways ive shot it quite a few times and the cylinder is not rotating at all with a trigger. I cannot physically see the hand inside the frame and the trigger is kind of binding when pulled. I would like to get this fixed as soon as possible. Can anyone refer a gunsmith in the east bay or contra costa? I know east bay gun works recently shut down. I will post pics when I can. Thanks

I do not have a recommendation in the bay, sorry. But seeing that you cherish it so, I strongly recommended you send it to S&W for a "tune up". After all, they made it in the first place.

Does s&w still repair older models? I will give them a call in the AM. I am a little apprehensive to mail it anywhere though.

I believe they send it to the Performance Center, they still make the 10 so I'd imagine parts are available. And I don't blame you at all for being apprehensive about shipping, but you're most likely going to have to ship it somewhere.

I pretty much have the same issue but have been unwilling to send it in. Let me know if you find a solution beforehand.

Try Apex Tactical. They do the best revolver work on this coast.

The authorized warranty center for Smith and Wesson here on the West Coast is Bolsa Gunsmithing in Westminster, CA. I've had them work on three of my classic S&W revolvers over the years and have nothing but good things to say about their work.

I don't think S&W will work on pre model number guns unless they have changed that and I doubt that. Also how old is it? Ones very old like from pre 1940's or so have a different type of long action and I think parts and knowledge to work on them is harder to find.

Hopefully it is a bit later vintage. I'd get it fixed and maybe put it in semi retirement and of course keep the loads used mild.

I personally have had a bad experience at Bolsa I'd think by now they could work on a S&W though. I think there is people as good or better than them if you do some research.

Chevy still makes the Corvette but there is a big difference between a 1953 and a 2015 model. I know a car is much more intricate but S&W revolvers vary a lot over all the engineering changes over the years. A lot of the modern parts may not fit or look correct.

I'd send it back to S&W. I know they did work on my 66-1 when it was out of time. They charged me for it but it works perfectly now.

I think that S&W will only work on guns made from 1958 on. Sorry that I have no gunsmith to suggest.

It all depends on availability of replacement parts, but a good gunsmith that can modify available parts to make them work is needed.

One (or more maybe) of the fellas from Gunworks in Pleasant Hill said he was going to be working at 29 Outdoor Gear. They're in American Canyon.
They always did great work on revolvers.
