What's up with the .40?

What's up with the .40? They used to be all the rage, but it seems their popularity has cooled since the FBI announced they were going to switch over to 9mm. This is not another discussion of their relative merits. I'm just interested in what others think about the .40's popularity.

I love my .40's. Walther PPQ, Sig 226, Glock 22

I also have many other caliber pistols: 9mm, 44 mag, 357, 22, 380, 32, 25, 38

I still shoot my .40's "99" percent of the time over the others.... But, my "wife" does prefer her 9mm....

i never did get on the .40 S&W bandwagon and haven't pondered much on it's ups and downs.

My glock 22 is still getting fed a steady diet of lead. I'd love to see someone get hit with a 40 s&w round and walk away like if it was a paintball.

I like .40sw quite a bit. During the ammo hoard at the local Walmart all the .45 and 9mm would dry up quickly but I never had to worry, there was always .40sw for me to have.

I never owned a .40. I already had .45s and 9 mm guns.
I sure didn't need another caliber to reload.

.40 is not going to "die" anytime soon, despite what many who hate the round say. 9mm is trending for good reasons. But remember one of those reasons is magazine capacity. It makes a difference to the cops, but not so much for peasants.

If you have a great gun in .40, keep it. Right now it will be undervalued and there's not good reason to force yourself to switch.

9mm fans tout developments in ammo effectiveness that supposedly means the .40 as answer to problems stopping with a 9 no longer exists.

Of course, those developments mean the .40 is that much more effective.

I shoot both. Never have trouble finding .40. I like it that way.
