    Smith and Wesson 460 markings

Ordered a smith and wesson 460 xvr from buds guns. double checked model number to CADOJ handgun roster. everything matched good. verified through budsguns that i was the correct california one and bought it. upon arrival to the FFL dealer, the gun did not have the ( A ) or ( B ) stamp on the inside of the upper frame. First question, what do the letters signify? Second, where can i find the model 170280A ? cause i cant find it anywhere.

Just have your FFL single action exempt it. I bought a 4" 500 mag from a gun shop in SD. After putting money down I noticed it wasn't on the roster. When I went in to put down my second payment I asked one of the workers if it was not on the roster anymore he shot Back YES IT IS! When I went to dros it they figured out it wasn't. They asked if I was interested in anything else and I said no. I mentioned single action exemption and they said they would look into it. Needless to say they did it and I got to dros the gun. A week after the 4" went back on the roster with the A engraved on it.

It's an easy process if they have an in house smith. Also what barrel length is the XVR your looking for and where is your location? I just picked up the 5" at discount Gunmart in SD If your in the LA area look up Baboosh. I think his shops called 2A sports he's got multiple threads in the vendor section

All they have to do is take out the double action sear. They DROS it to you. You take possession after 10 days and then they can switch it back. Do a search on SINGLE ACTION EXEMPTION. there's multiple threads here about it

YEAH, MY FFL DEALER ISN'T GONNA DO THAT FOR ME. I CALLED DOJ TO GET SOME INFO. IF ANYONE COMES ACROSS A 12IN 460 XVR WITH THE PROPER MARKING OF EITHER (A ) OR ( B ) I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. GILMORE619 THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

Bummer your FFL won't help you out. I kind of stuck it to the gunshop that sold me the 500 mag cause they should know better and they treated me like I knew nothing.

Most of these A and B marked Smiths are very scarce at present (virtually vaporware). I did e-mail S&W a while back, about another model, and they did say they were already shipping the CA compliant ones, but it might take a while before there are enough of them around to find one.

Good luck on your hunt OP.
