I am torn of getting either one but I would like to get the advantages and disadvantages for both handguns from people who owns both and shot both. Thanks!

SIG P226 or P229
Tags: None -
Same trigger pull and both DA/SA
One is full size and one is compact
One holds more ammo, but little heavier
Both excellent gun... 229 for more cc and 226 for duty carry.Comment

I own both, enjoy them much, not so indifferent. The 229 is essentially a shorter 226, one holds more ammo if you're in a free state, the 229 slide half serrations are not so Purdy. What specific models are you looking at? There are several variants of both.sigpicOriginally posted by gun toting monkeyboyYou did ask. They were only following your instructions. Next time be a bit more careful in how you phrase your posts. If you give people a straight line like that, this is about the level of response you are bound to get. Just be glad you didn't post "Date this rifle"... Those pictures are usually very disturbing.

The grip on the 229 is a little shorter then the 226. It won't matter for a range gun, but the 229 won't poke you as much in a holster.
The slide is a little shorter also, which gives it a shorter sight radius.
Why not hold both and decide that way? They should be readily available in your local firearms store.Comment

I've got both, though my P229 is in .40 S&W (love it that way). I would say go with the P226 though. My P226 is 9mm and its a fantastic shooter. The slide is a bit more slim than my P229, though not too much longer. Weight feels about the same in practical terms. The grip is slightly shorter on the P229, so if you're a big handed sort you may find the P226 better in that regard. For an all around gun I like to say full size, then down the line, if your CCW prospects open up, or you have the funds, you can get the P229 as well. Both will shoot great. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted in a profoundly sick society.Comment

as has been suggested by jkody (post #8), it would be most prudent to rent/shoot both candidates for purchase at the range before choosing one over the other.
my preference is for the w german P226. if i was in the market for a compact Sig Sauer pistol, i'd choose the w german P225 over the P229.Comment

Notice how many people have both. Face it, you'll end up buying both!!!
I have a 226 (free state edition) and a Cold War vintage 228. Sigs are quite simply the finest 9mm pistols ever made. Period. End of story.
My next purchase will be a 220. The only problem with having them both is that it's created a heated argument between me and my son. If SHTF, who gets the 6 and who gets the 8

. He doesn't quite understand I get both!!!

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.
