If you aren't going to be shooting it, it sounds like you bought it more for an investment so I don't understand why you want to put on a set of other than authentic Colt walnut grips. If the Python came with factory black rubber grips, why not invest in a nice set of period correct Colt Python checkered walnut grips as they will also appreciate in value. They are out there if you know where to look.
It's your Python to do as you wish with, I'm just letting you know that original grips in good to perfect condition are still available through private party sales. If you are interested, PM me and I'll send you the name and address of a very reputable Python gun and parts dealer.
Whatever the case, congratulations on your Python purchase.

^^ just what I was thinking. If it's an investment gun, keep it original.

I'll add to the previous two comments. Putting new, after market grips on a classic Colt revolver is not something I'd do. What grips are on it now? If it has the originals on it, leave it be!

If not, I'd find out what it was issued with and put those on it. They probably will cost you though.

Your revolver, your call. Great score by the way!

I didn't like the original "Presentation" type grips that my '94 Python came with so, I put on a set of finger grooved Pachmayr grips. Much more comfortable. Although, it is always best to keep the original grips tucked away in the original box (if you have it). All of my Colt snake guns and SAA revolvers have non-stock grips but I keep all the stock stuff. Bottom line is...Put on whatever type grips you want. It's your gun.

It came with the original Colt Python checkered walnut grips, I will keep it how it is but I liked how the pictured grips went with the gun, I just thought it looked cool.

                  Thank you everyone
