    Apex DCAEK for M&P Shield

Well, if you haven't heard, Apex Tactical Specialties are celebrating their 15th anniversary and are having a 15% off sale.

I couldn't think of a better time to order a Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit from them for my M&P Shield 9mm.

I really like my Shield, but the trigger had some grit to it, and the break of the trigger would disrupt the sights while dry firing so I knew it wasn't living up to it's accuracy potential out of the box.

That, and what better reason to #GetYourApexOn

Start with a field stripped gun, and the kit fresh out of the Fed Ex box.

    The kit includes:

1 ea. Aluminum Shield Action Enhancement Trigger
1 ea. Trigger Return Spring Installation Shield Slave Pin (to assist with trigger return spring installation)
1 ea. Fully machined .45 Sear
1 ea. Ultimate Striker Block Kit
    1 ea. Ultimate Striker Block
    1 ea. Striker Block Spring
    1 ea. Talon Tactical tool
1 ea. Shield Carry Spring Set
    1 ea. Sear Spring (1/8")
1 ea. 4 lb Rated Trigger Return Spring

Just a few moments later and I had the gun disassembled. This was the first time I had taken my Shield down beyond a field strip:

OEM polymer trigger on left, new Aluminum Action Enhancement Trigger on the right:

I didn't take too many pics of the action, because I was moving right along with the installation. This is the sear housing block with the new fully machined sear already installed. Shout out to Weaponshield - better than frog lube. Come at me.

Next up is taking the OEM trigger off the trigger bar. Since I didn't have a 3/32nds pin punch I used an appropriately sized allen key. Ghetto, but it works.

New Aluminum trigger installed. Apex sets the pin at the appropriate depth from the factory so all you need to do is align the trigger bar, and seat the pin. Simple, simple.

Installed here (and in the photo above) is the polymer slave pin used to hold the trigger return spring. This makes installation of the trigger and trigger bar a breeze.

Trigger and locking block reinstalled into the frame:

Oh no! I marred the trigger when seating the trigger bar retention pin!

Lower half the frame completely reassembled with Fresh Apex parts:

    And the gun reassembled:

    So fresh.

Goes well with the full size (also with DCAEK):

    Thoughts:

The kit was very easy to install. It took maybe 30 minutes and that was even with some incorrect tools.

    The trigger pull is fantastic.

Very smooth take up, and a nice crisp break. I would highly recommend this kit or any other Apex kits to anyone looking to clean up the trigger of their gun.

The Apex armorer block is VERY nice. It has movable bosses that will size to just about any gun and is a great purchase for anyone who goes beyond a field strip of their firearms.

I have not yet installed the Ultimate Striker Block. I am waiting on a new set of Ameriglo CAP sights to come in, and I'll be mailing the slide off to Apex for them to swap sights, install the USB and do a test fire. Stay tuned for that post in the future.

Well detail report, thank you. Great pics as well.

I installed the Competition AEK on my M&P Pro, it's smooth like "buttah" now.

I have yet to install a kit on our Shield. Someday.

          Lastly: price was about $135.

I don't want to hear anyone complain about it being too expensive or you'll join the 60 other people on my ignore list. And no, I'm not joking.

            Nice review!

            Two question:

            1. Are you upgrading to calguns gold account, or are you content with the basic 'hi-point' user account?

            2. The stock M&P triggers I've tried have all been very gritty, is your new trigger as good as a stock hipoint?

I just had my AEK/SCK installed.
It reduced the take up marginally and the break is reduced to right at 5 lbs and much more crisp.
The main reason I got it was because of the abysmal factory reset. Now the reset is definitely more defined.

I want one. Great write up!
Good call on the CAP sights. I have them on my Shield and they are excellent.

Now you have me thinking about upgrading my Shield, thanks! Great write up. Quick question, how easy was it to fit fingers inside Shield frame? All done with needle nose pliers?
I've had no issues with full sized Sigs or Xd's but single stack smaller frames have had me pulling hair out.

I have CAP sights on my glock 19 and i love them.

my only complaint is that the front sight was slightly too fat so i swapped it out for the TCAP front sight. Much better.

The shield is smaller, so a bigger front sight will be just fine.

All the work is done outside the frame...You can see in the 2nd photo I posted its completely stripped.
