Last year I bought 2 colts Combat Elites with sequetial serial numbers. I have not done anything to them but put them in gun socks and stuck them in the safe. These guns will go to my oldest grandchild from each of my sons if they have kids. So what I'm looking for is how to store them for 20+ year with the least amount of up keep.

Get them out of the socks. Grease the chit out them and store in original box with desiccant packs. -

Where you store the guns will have a lot to do with the answer.
I've spent the last 35 +/- years in a desert climate. If I was near the coast, I'd be more concerned.

never allow your bare finger to be the last thing to touch a gun's finish prior to long-term storage.

Honestly. Dogs need to be walked. If the purpose is to connect with/to them, no better means that knowing Grandpa loved and shot these firearms. I have guns that have been sitting in various safes (some fired and some not) for more than 25 years. I use Goldenrod's to keep the safe's dry, and the guns all look great. I don't store anything in their boxes. I have a few rifles in gun socks, but mostly to prevent scatching.sigpicComment
