    Shining a Parkerized 1911

    Hello all!

I'm looking to give my parkerized 1911 a little shine once I get it. I hear that smearing oil on it, letting it sit for hours, and then wiping off the excess will do the trick, but I want to hear what you guys would recommend.

    Thanks!

If possible, this is the look I am trying to go for (See attachment)

The gun in the picture is blued, not parked.

I see. So it would be impossible to have that look without taking off the parked finish, right?

^^^OP...Your parkerized 1911 will be of a matte finish, not blued as in the pic.

Coat it with Crisco, wrap in a large banana leaf, seal inside a an empty large mayonase jar and bury it in your back yard.

If you want shine, get it chromed. If you want shiny black, get it blued. Bluing is cheaper and crap as far as protection, but blued pistols wear beautifully.

I personally think parkerization has a utilitarian beauty all by itself.

              But that is just me.

Look up parkerizing and you will understand why it won't shine.

You can make it reflect light with kliegs and a layer of oil, but it wont' shine.

a parkerized surface assists in keeping a protective agent adhering to your gun's metal much more than a blued finish. there is a certain beauty of a practical nature to that.

Hopefully you are not looking to de-value a collectable....

                      ^^^ +1.

most any post factory permanent mod/alteration made to a collectible or up-and-coming collectible will significantly lower or altogether destroy true or potential collectible value.

Get a modern finish that will resemble what you're looking for. Google Dan Severns hard hat treatment.

+2 Don't mess with it, get something else and leave this be if it won't work for you.

Nothing like a good blue job to set you strait and is so psychologically delightful.
