    Hi Power Magazines

Would it be better to use 10 round magazines in a Hi Power, or get some 13 round mags blocked to 10 rounds. Or does it even matter.
I can get MecGar 10 rounders for about $20. Don't know how much blocked mags would be.

To those that know, are the MecGars the best 10 round mags?

Don't know they are the best but there sure do come highly recommended, I have a few and they work great so far. Go with 10 rounders, why muck around blocking 13's.

I wish someone could point me to some BHP mags with the mousetrap spring in the back. Those suckers are hard to find!

MecGar pretty much makes most of the "factory" magazines that come with the pistols of many many makers, so they know what they're doing. Regarding the 10 rd Hi Power mags---the MecGar's you see out there for $20 or so are very much like the mags delivered with the pistol except NO mousetrap spring on back. The magazines labeled as "Browning" DO have the spring on back and can be found on the internet, but are over twice as expensive---so, spring or no spring...

This is a spring at the very bottom and back of the magazine that helps eject the mag from the pistol when you press the mag release button...

Those are only on the Browning factory mags
(Which I'm told are also made by Mec-Gar)

eta And they run about $60 when you can find them

If you have a BHP with the mag disconnect still intact, your mags won't drop free unless you have the spring. I'm still waiting for C&S to get my BHP for work, so I have to live with this as a workaround.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I will just block a couple of my "soon to be illegal" 13 rounders. It's cheaper than buying new 10 rounders.

The rest of my "illegal" mags will be melted down and turned into an art piece.

Didn't know about the spring on the back of the newer mags. I wouldn't need them. My Hi Power doesn't have the mag disconnect.

Don't melt them down. Wipe it clean and drop it off at the office of all those city officials who voted for the BS

I was going to give the "art piece" to the city council as a "job well done".

think about this first...if you ever decide to sell your BHP, obviously if you resell it in California you would have to make sure you don't sell it with the original 13 round magazines

but, now you've limited your market too...many out of state potential buyers will want the 13 round original mag it came with, they may not even want to deal with 10 round magazines

if you're in to complying with this horsesh** law, that's totally on you, exactly what they WANT...me, personally, im not giving up anything

i don't live in LA, but, i do spend a lot of time in cities that are a part of LA

my advice would be, buy a few 10 round mags, sock away your 13 rounders if you're worried about getting pinched with them, leave em at home, but keep them, things change...im sure there are plenty of places NOT LA where using them won't be an issue...plus, like i said, if you ever sell, someone out of state is probably going to want the original 13 rounders too

if im not mistaken, its not illegal to sell your plus 10 magazines out of state, so it shouldn't be a problem if you ever decide to sell the BHP to someone out of state

                            Teddy,
I appreciate your concern. I probably should have inserted this , to get my point across.
I think people will overwhelmingly refuse to follow the guidelines of this new law.

What is this soon to be illegal 13 rounders? I thought if you had them prior to whatever the date was (1990?) you can keep them. Not that I have anything like that, just asking for a friend.
